sandy

i am researching a possible career change and im getting confused as i am trying to take in as much info sa possible.

would a compitent plumber who is qualified to nvq level2 be able to install full central heating systems? or am i right in thinking that the plumber would do all the pipe work and then a gas registered plumber would do the boiler and associated gas work?

also would anyone mind posting a list of typical jobs a plumber with nvq 2 would expect to undertake, i will start the list and woud appreciate if you could add/remove

cheers

- fit out bathrooms
- fit external taps
- fit dishwashers / washing machines
- fit central heating (minus gas)
- leadwork
- renewables (installing solar heating etc)

- fit out bathrooms - Yes.
- fit external taps - Yes.
- fit dishwashers / washing machines - Yes.
- fit central heating (minus gas) In theory but customer just hires the bloke who will do the lot. If you're working for a firm that does central heating installs and you're level 2 you might do this.
- leadwork - Not really. It's mainly specialist firms. Old-school plumbers might. The guy who taught me does.
- renewables (installing solar heating etc) - If they've got the applicable extra qualifications. It's a specialist wing again. Level 2 doesn't cover it.

You basically work with all wet-plumbing. Taps, toilets, valves, leaks, cylinders, bathrooms, radiators etc. Repairs, replacements and new installations.

Don't forget that you work with what the customers wants/needs (within regs)If they let you!!!!!!They can be more problematic than the system problems!!!!LOL
