Hi all, new to forum so please go easy on me. I hope this isn't to daft a question. About 6 months ago I had a replacement (used) shower pump fitted. Now it seems to work absolutely fine but when it is not in use, there is a continous 'electrical humming' emmitting from the pump. It's not particularly loud but I can hear it in my bedroom. My question is, Does this mean it is constantly using electricity, eg costing me, even when it is not in use?

Thanks for any help and advice

Dont really know that pump but I'd be looking for a jammed/stuck motor or a failed capacitor

It's a low voltage pump and the hum you can hear is probably from the transformer.

Thanks for the replie everyone, but does it actually mean it's using electricty while it's making the humming noise?

switch everything in your house off and see if your leccy meter keeps moving, if it is then yes imo :)

If its humming then its using electricity. How much is a different matter. Can you turn it off easily when not in use?
