Hi all, just a quck Q. How would you go about gaining a maintenance/intallation contract with your local council? Would it be best to approach direct, write letters or find their bidding website? But i hear using the bidding process can be expensive. thanks in advance

Think you'll find that the big boy's get all this work ! they usely want a min number of people employed by you, be carefull about payments can take months to get your money, they will tie you up with all sorts of red tape. But good luck anyway.

I used to apply direct to the council or H/A.
Upside was plenty of work.
Downside was rubbish prices, took far too long to pay and I frequently had £50k outstanding and when I eventually got it I had £48k to pay out.

My wife used to work at council and she told me that they never wanted to pay money out.
never pay any bills until last minute.

its nearly impossible for a small company to get contracts from councils youll be snowed under with requests for written policies on every thing from racial breakdown of your work force to your disabled employment policyone thing they wont ask to see is anything relevant to the work your undertaking
last i heard the public liability levels were in the 30 million bracket

Sack that idea then, might approach some letting agents, probably same story though!

Thanks for the advice
