I have a pipe which comes into the house under the front path (about 8m in length).

The pipe comes through the cellar wall and is loose against the wall (black plastic pipe).

It is not frozen inside the house as we have heating in the cellar (converted to kitchen and store cupboard) and so i think it is a problem in the ground.

What can i do to insulate this pipe so i dont have this problem again ?

We have no water now for 3 days and it looks set to be off until after christmas.

Do i just use pipe lagging ?

different grades, go to a plumbers merchants and ask what insulation they have

I have found the pipe in a chamber which lets air into the basement via an air brick. The pipe enters the wall at the side of the air brick and is not lagged. i have lagged it now, but the pipe comes up to about 25cm below ground level and then disappears under some breeze blocks.

i need to get a jack hammer to break these up in order to see how deep the pipe is in the garden.

If i leave the pipe where it is can i just lag it and cover it over with earth. I am assuming it is only buried up to 25-50cm deep which i know is not deep enough, but i would prefer not to have to excavate a new channel.

what do you all think?
