Hi, I have a couple of questions relating to the pipe work on the exterior of my property with a view to rectifying what i currently see as a minor problem.

i recently started removing the Amazonian like forest that was growing in the flowerbeds at the front of the house. In doing so i have found that the waste water from the kitchen sink is overflowing and running into the flowerbed. A simple issue, I thought, the drain will just be blocked. Went out this morning and bought a set of drain rods, removed the grate and stuck a rod in. Alas, it's going nowhere.

Upon on closer inspection it looked as if the pipe from the sink comes out of the side wall, into a grate with what appears to be the top of a drain connection and literally goes straight into the flower bed. So, i dug a bit of the soil out of the way, removed the part that i expected to be a drain and carried on digging around. Tis is what I discovered...

There seems to be a main drain connection pipe running across the front of the house, i have moved the kitchen sink waste pipe from a straight downward angle across to the drainage grate which serves the down pipe from the guttering. Obviously the drain bit and grate from this sink waste pipe are off at the side as there were 2 sets next 2 each other.

So, is what I have done a satisfactory fix for this problem. I have riddled this drain access and cleared it of soil and debris, tested by running the cold tap on full for 5 minutes and emptied a full sink of water down this pipe and it all drained away, no overspill. I have also put some plastic edging around this grate to prevent further debris from entering.

Secondly, is there a way of me (cheap and easy as I'm not massively skilled) in 'finishing' the job ie. making some kind of connection into that orange pipe and being able to have the sink waste pipe running straight down into its own drain?

many thanks for any assistance provided to a total novice.

I was stupid enough not to check the position of the pipes under the tiles when installing a toilet and drilled right through the center of a 16 mm copper water pipe. I exposed the pipe by removing a ~30cm section of the plastic sleeve and a ~10 cm section of the pipe around the hole. Several...
