Or do you give an estimate, hourly rate, daily rate?
It seems like a waste of time quoting small jobs

Unless it was for a good reason, - a house insurance claim for example.
Otherwise just usually verbally and let them take it or leave it.
Not worth the time spent on an estimate for an hour or two work.
But if customer a total stranger, it might be worth it to have some agreement on price in writing or text, email.

Give them a quick estimate on the phone of how long it should take then a rough idea.

If I get there and it looks harder than normal then I say straight away and see if they want me to proceed.

No point going out to quote for say £150 worth of work unless you driving past.

The one that makes me laugh is
Them Can you quote to repair my boiler?

Me What's wrong with it?

Them it's not working!

Me I cant quote you to repair it if I dont know what's wrong with it

Them well I haven't got heating

Me could be anything it will be 4k

Them now your just being stupid I will go somewhere else then.

Me bye then.

Just answer them - It could be anything from a £40 call out - to a full new boiler £3000 install.
Maybe then their brain will compute they asked a stupid question :)

We run a community village hall and have a large kitchen provided for the use of hirers. This includes a Lincat SLR9 gas cooker which I believe is a 23.8Kw appliance with all six burners and oven on max. This was installed some 10 years ago and has passed all subsequent Gas Safety inspections as...

I was stupid enough not to check the position of the pipes under the tiles when installing a toilet and drilled right through the center of a 16 mm copper water pipe. I exposed the pipe by removing a ~30cm section of the plastic sleeve and a ~10 cm section of the pipe around the hole. Several...
