Warning:
DO NOT USE PORSADRILL DIAMOND CORE DRILL BITS WITH ROTOZIP
We attended site today where a main contract stated an operator was having a real problem drilling holes into travertine and marble.
On arrival we found that the operator has substituted Rotozip bits with PORSADRILL diamond core drills.
Arrived on site to find out what the problems were:
Found the PORSADRILL diamond core drills laying about as per the clients order.
Observed the operators working. The complaint was that the material was really
and I mean REALLY difficult to drill into.
The PORSADRILL diamond cores had in fact been used.
But they had been fitted into a 110v Rotozip unit
Under no circumstances should PORSADRILL diamond cores be used with this machine.
The original diamond core supplied with the unit had burnt out (thats the piece top right)
But if you fit PORSADRILL diamond cores into the unit it runs so fast that the water used to cool the core cant touch it.
The unit is set to one single speed. 30,000RPM (Yes THIRTY THOUSAND)
So that the water simply is forced away byhttps://www.google.co.uk/search?hl=...a=X&ei=eETPUNukBOva0QWxvYDIBg&ved=0CDQQvwUoAAcentrifugal forces. And the core simply boils.
We managed to drill the holes above but we had to literally JET water into the hole to have even a remote chance of access.
PORSADRILL IS A FANTASTIC PRODUCT IF USED CORRECTLY.
You must use in a normal drill. Either a hand held drill (110v or 240v makes no difference)
Or a battery held hand drill.
When Porsadrill is used at these lower speeds it actually drills though the material faster and cleaner.
But you must use water to keep it cool.
The PORSADRILL cores are designed to be ultra thin. The metal is wafer thin to wick heat away quickly.
But it needs that water contact.
At 30,000rpm there is simply no chance of the tool being allowed to cool so it will simply glow red and then fail.
The material being drilled is actually very very soft. Its a resin based marble effect.
So you really do have to be very careful about what equipment you use.
In this case some operator training was provided. They will bring a drill to site in the morning.
And the work will continue very quickly and with a lot less burnt out cores.
Please do not use or combine PORSADRILL with Rotozip or any other high speed grinder. You may cause damage to the equipment, to the material being drilled, yourself or someone else.
Please only use PORSADRILL with a standard drill
