I have purchased a kitchen mixer (with shower) that a customer requires but am perplexed at a couple of the instructions. There is a notification on the box that states: WARNING - THIS TAP MUST BE SUPPLIED FROM A STORAGE CISTERN.

In addition the instructions specify: To prevent contamination of drinking water in the premises and in the water main, and to comply with the legal requirements of the UK plumbing regulations and byelaws*, both hot water and cold water supplied to this tap must come from a storage cistern.

I am mystified at such a directive. Clearly it was my intention to fit a non-return valve to both hot and main supplies but I would appreciate if someone could specify what is the intention is here.

Any help much appreciated.

Yes as the head can drop below the water line (cat 5 backflow risk) very common and finally the manufacturers are quoting uk regs

Dont know many people who knowingly would drink water which had been stored in a tank weather or not it had been installed to water regs, we all know that many do because they dont know.

Tank cold water isn't suitable for drinking really you would need a separate tap etc

It just does not make sense, though. For what sort of application is this device designed? Has anybody ever installed such an item where the cold supply comes from a storage cistern? The customer that chose the item has the hot water provided by a combi so no storage there, either.

It does it's water regs

Best option is to fit a standard tap and not one with a pull out house

Hi, Can anyone advise as to why the cold water to my bathroom keeps airlocking? This originally happened about 12 months ago and has happened 3-4 times since. It’s an upstairs bathroom, fed from a tank in the attic. The tank is about 8 Meters away and feeds a bath, sink and toilet. The tank...
