is it possible to bore a hole in a cast iron downpipe using bi-metal holecutters 57mm ? I was told it was possible but after spending several hours and several holecutters I am starting to think otherwise lol any help or advice would be much appreciated

The hole utters needed to get through cast iron are expensive, the ones you have chewed up are prob bi metal from merchants costing £10-15? Forget it, those are good for tin and light alloys only. Try calling a company called diatech ask for mark. Tell him diameter of hole needed and thickness of cast iron. Those ones you have get chewed on ferrous metals. What I would do is say the down pipe needs replacing to put a boss on and you have yourself more work :)

Like that kirk, timesaver branch? Is that your term or a real product?

Entirely possible with a bi metal holesaw. Slow speed and plenty of cutting oil (Temaxol). I've done it many a time. As soon as you get impatient and speed up the hole saw over heats and blunts.

I've used normal hole saw worked fine even on a cordless. As said, nice and slow.
