I'm looking for advice looking for a job. I served my time with a small company, just me and a tradesman and my apprenticeship finished last year. I was told from the start that as soon as my apprenticeship was done I had to find a new job but my tradesman never really let me do much so I really lack practical experience and confidence. I'm worried that when I get a job as a tradesman I'm not going to be able to work to the same standard and speed as others. Can anyone recommend the best places to gain experience without much pressure. I was thinking about just being completely honest at interviews and offering to work for less money to begin with.

Honesty would be the best approach. Try getting in with a company as an improver and see what private work you can get alongside it as you can pick and choose jobs you are comfortable with and do them at your own pace to build experience. Depending on where you are based you may find bigger companies who use improvers. I have a company local who do mostly installs for house builders so they are just knocking out house installs day after day and they use time served guys with improvers alongside them. It's one way of doing it to build knowledge and skills
