Anyone else had problems with Santander? Someone phoned them up yesterday trying to get into my account on telephone banking. The advisor noted on file that the accent sounded suspicious and that he failed security. The bank didn't think to call me and inform me someone was trying to access my account. From yesterday evening onwards, around 20 card payments, starting with the token £1 small transaction (most made to foreign countries) have been taken out. Amount now gone = £3,500 .

I called them at noon today, they read me the transactions. I confirmed they were all fraudulent card transactions. I was informed the card had been stopped. Imagine my surprise when after attending the branch at 3pm with ID as I was asked to, the card actually hadn't been stopped. In that time another £700 had come out.

Will they take any responsibility or credit the amount back while they do their fraud investigation? Not a chance!

This will be one business leaving Santander!

Anyone else had any bad dealings with them?

sounds like I got lucky when Natwest sold all its online business banking to Santander I said no thanks!!

I find one way to stop unauthorized transactions is to not have any money in my account!! Ever!! As hard as i try there's never any in there!!

LOL fair one. How do you pay bills though?

The bills are the problem, as soon as get a bit in, someone has there hand out wanting there bit!!

They managed to transfer all my money to another account internally without realising before christmas.

they did sort it out fairly quickly.

I am with santander and had no probs yet. I moved to them from hsbc due to problems there and had probs with natwest 20 years ago. They are all as bad as each other if you talk to enough people. If I change banks again I am going to try: Handelsbanken

I looked at them first. I was seriously tempted but figure that those sorts of banks need a business willing to put in a 6 or 7 figure sum!

My personal accounts are with Santander but my business accounts are with Barclays have to say am impressed so far. Got mobile banking too so I can keep tabs on the account whilst on the go.

so will you get your £4,200 back then?

It will come back once they have investigated the fraud. No timescales off them as yet though.

Luckily I check my account daily and spotted it before the account was near being emptied. I have no business bank cards though at the moment either as it's had to be cancelled of course.

Funny you should mention them Albatross - I have my eye on them as well.

That handelsbanken is located close to me but they share a building with vanquis a company for people with less then great credit scoring, whilst they may be separate entity's I'd want to look into that first just to be sure

I might well give Handelsbanken a call. I am sick fed up of Santander and the normal banks. Whether I am too small fry for them or not - I will find out I guess..

Lloyd's issued my ex wife with a brand new shiny cheque book with her name on so she could skin me some more........that was 4 years after the divorce!! They later claimed it wouldn't have worked which I don't believe.

Idiots!

Your mot the only one Ray, I never heard of them till I stumbled on an article. I was round my friends/accountants one evening and before I could tell him the name he said it. It seem there are many people watching them and branches opening fast in the uk. It seems like good old fashioned banking to me.

Thats the bit that appealed to me. I don't need lot of fancy gimmicks, but I do like the idea of a bank manager who actually knows me as a person.

I had occasion to talk to the "personal banking advisor" for the bank that the company uses a little while ago, and he was just cr@p.

I currently bank with Virgin One, but its just a front for RBS.

Well with all my hassles today at Santander a local business manager actually popped in from the Santander branch across the road from the one I went in to today (why do you need 2 branches on opposite sides of a pedestrianised street?).. This was the first time I had met him in over 2 years of being in Lincoln. That says a lot about them to me!

I am going to call Handelsbanken tomorrow as they have a branch in Lincoln. I will let you know my first impressions! They can't be any worse than Santander are.

Santander are shocking! I remember the days when you put your cheques in at the post office. I was always wary of this and in the end I had nearly a thousand go missing. I got it back eventually, thankfully. Now i always put all my details on the back of cheques.
I swapped them with natwest - now it sounds like I'm back with them?!

Vanquis are vermin! I got a credit card with them to build my rating, the card got frauded, overall took nearly 6 months to sort out, and as they told me to cut card up and not use it make no payments etc they then put down missed payments on the fraud money spent and these have gone down on my credit file and given me a worse rating than when I started! Was promised 2 months ago it would be removed, shock horror it still there! Sick of ringing them up, and every time you do you have to Explain the whole thing again as nobody knows what's going on. Then they promise its sorted, only to find it never gets sorted!
