Hi All, got a baxi bermuda back boiler, the pilot's on but i won't fire up when theres a call for heat. Any thoughts. John

Possable that you have a sticky gas valve, can you here it click when calling for heat ? Also try turning off pilot let it reset then relight and try again not a lot to go wrong with these boilers.

Thanks for the quick replies, I am gas safe registered but don't get too involved with back boiler, trying to help a mate out.

Couldn't hear it click, did turn it off, did the same thing when I relit the pilot.

It's basic fault finding on the gas valve, thermostat and controls. You can't get a lot more basic. You'll have covered fault finding on the gas valve when you did your CCN1.

Probley have to replace gas valve, price of this has gone up, could get a repair kit at one time but think this has gone of market. take it boiler stat is working ?

how many of you answering are gsr? what if the op trys to change this themselves? conscience anyone?

Not to sure how we stand legally giveing advise on site, if person asking desides to do repair themselfs and somthing happens can we be held libel ?? Plumb center ect told not to give advise to people !!

no we cant be held liable(unless someone dies) but we need to think before we reply

So if some-one desides to repair a gas appliance after asking for advise , blows up is house or dies of CO then we can be held libel ?? Wonder how meny have done own repairs and how safe is it now ?? Starts to get a bit scary !!

it all depends i suppose if this site gets mentioned if mr jones at number 22 changes his own gas valve and takes out half the street, its a awkward one if we answer or not and in the event of a incident trackability if we give gas advice

Simple answer is to make sure it's a Gas Safe registered Engineer that works on the appliance. Baxi Bermuda back boiler is one of the easiest to fault find on, probably 'the easiest' I am surprised that a 'GSR' Engineer is asking for advice on this one.
It's the individual who works on it without registration who risks prosecution.

its no gsr asking for advise, thats a dead cert

When someone who is supposedly gas safe as the OP claims? Is having trouble with one of the most basic appliances, it sends my alarm bells ringing.
Should we be giving a non-qualified person detailed gas information over a public forum?

Yes but how do you know if person asking question is GS ? what about duty of care, are we not advised to take out insurance if we give advise or recomendations on gas fittings !!

ask for a name, and gs number and check it out on the GS website not much more we can do,but faulting a BBU? come on

I think the issue is the way advice is offered. By saying: "I think you need to change the gas valve" this is an instruction.
Or: "It could be a faulty gas valve" which is merely pinpointing without instruction to do anything.
Yours Sincerely
Perry Mason.

If in any doubt about a persons gas qualifications, the advise should be "I think you need to have a qualified gas engineer look at it".
Simple as that!

Thanks guys thats clear`d up that question ! will try somthing else later!! :censored:
