Friends,

went to see a chap whose bath taps wanted changing.

Got bath panel off but the plastic back nuts would not budge. Tried box spanner, grips, basin wrench, adjustable and used all my strength,

I think they e been siliconed on.

i need to go back for him, I will try to cut the off. Any comments? How about the far but? Quite difficult to get to but gotta do job.

Very tight space but need to do it,

Thanks

I find sometimes grabbin the nut with wrench or spanner and try turning the actual tap anti clockwise and keeping the nut in place?

If they are separate taps just change the tops, rather than damage the bath.

As above try holding the nut and turning tap, is it a cast bath ? could be plumbers mate in old square holes

It's a mixer tap set up. I tried to get tap revivers today but they didn't fit. I chafed tap washers ok but the shower attach part keeps running. I took it apart looks ok, I side tap is very rusty, tried to scrape but no luck.

The bath is cast but never encountered it before, not that I've changed many but this is glued fast. It's a plastic nut otherwise I'd heat it up.

Thanks for replies.

Can you get a long flat headed screwdriver and tap the back nuts loose ? shouldnt damage the bath with it being cast

To be really honest as a c/h outfit we tend to avoid bathrooms esp. problems as there
is little money in them and as you have found out - problems.

The only refits we do are 1. multiple - housing assocaition fixed price - low profit
high turnover
2. High end stuff- big profit

I was thinking of hitting them with a hammer and chisel? Just get then off somehow.

I don't have the luxury of picking and choosing jobs do I am trying to do small ones at the mo to get me going. I thought this was an easy ish one !

Get yourself an old flat screwdriver or chisel and heat the tip up nice and hot. Using the hot sharp end push it through the back nut in two places to cut it into two halves.........then lever the two halves off........simples

Genius! If I ever bother to change taps again I will be using that!

Toxic Ted is on the button but get yourself some of these for the future - seem expensive but they are the nuts the mut would be quite proud of.
