Hello. I am trying to fit a replacement thermostatic shower to my high pressure unvented system. Plasterboard is down from the shower cubicle, and I can see the existing pipework is plastic piping with push fit connections - it is not fixed apart from the pipe holder on the wooden batton about a foot above the elbow. The old shower unit was screwed to the wall (externally) so was self supporting, but the new therm bar shower is supposed to be supported by the hot and cold feed pipes.

So my first problem is do I need to replace with copper down pipes to support the shower? I have seen I could buy brass elbow with the 1/2" tap connector and push fit for the plastic pipe, but have no conventient way of fixing this to the wall. I cannot use those fixing plates either, as there is a beam between the hot and cold feeds.

The other problem I cannot figure out how this is supposed to work. How can I fit the new bar shower unit when the tiles are supposed to be in place, when clearly I need to be able to access the internal of the wall cavity to tighten the fittings? I am sure this is not an uncommon scenario, I just cannot figure out what I am missing.

Any advise appreciated.

Hi Mopane
Your issues aren't hard to resolve but could lead to all sorts of problems if you don't do the job properly.
I would advise you to get a plumber to do the first and second fix.

Bristan do a bar shower fixing kit. Basically you need to have the tails for hot and cold supplies sticking out of the wall at the correct distance apart, drill the tiles to fit over the tails again at the correct distance. The fixing kit is then fitted over the tails and screwed in place. Your shower then fits onto the kit.

Best thing is get one as full instructions are provided. Honestly, they are dead simple to use and will solve your problem.

The bristan kit is spot on, always try to get bristan bar mixer.

Brilliant, thanks guys. Once I started searching there were so many, it became obvious. Embarrassed that I had not found these things before. Found a Mira one that should do the trick (could not find Bristan ones). Thanks again for your help.

It's good to know you're sorted.
