Acrylic Bath Plug Hole depth

Hey chaps,

Fitting a new acrylic bath tub, looks half decent (even though it did arrive from one of the DIY sheds!). However, one downside I've noticed is that around the plug hole, the fibreglass hasn't been evenly sprayed.

Therefore, the thickness of the pre-drilled hole is greater around one side than the other, which isn't helping me to get the pop-up waste screwed in level... this in turn means the bath trap's gonna be on the p***.

I suppose I can try filing the side with more fibreglass down, meaning I'll end up with a thickness of about 5mm all the way around... but has anyone got any other ideas, ie. can you get fibreglass filler or spray that I can apply to the base of the bath to pad the plug hole out more?

Loathed to just pack it with a load silicone or plumbers mait if I'm honest.

Hi mate. I sometimes the fibre glass can be really badly finished on underside. But i would gently sand it down with my multi tool and a sanding pad . Once its level then ad a home made washer only if needed to make up distance. Simply seal well.

depending on how much its 'out' mate I would be tempted to send it back.
You would silcone the waste in any way but you would not tend to use much on a bath waste.

Cheers guys, unfortunately sending it back's not an option... it's the second one we've had. First one, the acrylic inside the tub had dips due to bad manufacturing. This second one arrive and had a couple of light scratches in the top corner.

Checked over everything else (although clearly not the plug hole finish!) and that all looked in perfect condition so didn't want to risk changing it again.... had a long, drawn out complaint over the product and service we received and finally agreed to keep it, accepting some compensation.

Oh am I kicking myself now... wasn't as if it was cheap either. :mad2:

I've always sent them back but like Kris I'd have a go at sanding it, just be careful you don't take too much out and do the waste up to tight.....crack!!
