    Hi guys,

im after some info on the most common make of oilr boiler u all install. The majority of boilers ive imstalled are worcester, ive always thought grants and some firbirds are a pain in the [email protected]@ to service, where as the worcesters are fairly straight forward. We fitted a couple if warmflos recently and found them to be a bit of a faff tbh, i know their a fair chunk cheaper than the worcester but there was what seemed like a lot of extra work to assemble them! What are your opinions on the range of makes available?

My opinion on Worcester after sales service is very poor. Sorry that's about the only comment I can think off right this minute.
Do potterton not still make an oil boiler, I haven't seen one in a few years and I don't install that many. I'm mainly breakdown and service when it comes to oil.

Grant oil boilers everytime! (I don't like any combi oil though) Can't understand why you would think Grant boilers are hard to service? One door gets you into the two heat exchangers - and usually the door seals last.

    Warmflow for me.

Quality of install is where longevity will come from. Too many pee poor installations with no addiional expansion or even mi's not folowed.

Must admit I find Warmflow HE boilers fairly easy to service also, but they do have a couple of extra tasks I dislike. Firstly the secondary exchanger has a door you have to remove, then a rubber seal that needs replacing. Then there is the boiler baffles, which have to be properly staggered which is a pain and I bet few bother. Efficiency, even by Warmflows MIs is not just as good as Grant Vortex. Grant baffles are often too tight though and need a bit of careful grinding on some.
The Warmflow combi is bother and I avoid them, but same with any oil combi.

Wait till you see a HEE Warmflow combi. Done away with one of the pumps and a massive diverter in there now.

    Things on a warmflow combi I don't like :-

The flexi hose to expansion vessel, gets blocked far too easy.
Low pressure sensor and pressure gauge seperated by the flexi hose.
The wiring center. Need hands like a 2 year old to get in. Use wago's now tho.

Yes, the flexi between vessel & boiler on Warmflow combi is trouble.
Also the washers around exchanger passing water plus the usual auto vents

The cord seal on Grants? I find they are okay if I am careful removing the door not to tear them. The seal does get a bit tatty and some sulphur on it, must admit, but as long as it is still going to do its job sealing the gases in, then no problem.

I dont like Warmflow boilers at all, I think the build quality leaves a lot to be desired, however they are of course a budget model. Grant every time. The newer Worcesters are a pain in the backside to service.

On the other question re Potterton, their oil boiler was the "Statesman", however this is no longer made since the company became part of Baxi.
