Well thats a lesson learned for future never to use screwfix again

as most know im new and had no tools or van blah blah blah, i had some luck yesterday and a family member happily handed over 2k to my business (loan) well off i went on my quest to purchase a full set of tools for my job, went to B&Q and they had very little to choose from, went to Wicks and i quickly ran out screaming so i had to turn to Screwfix as i had to start tomorrow (friday)

Im happy with the tools and gear i purchased and i thought i was happy on price until, i took the missus to the boozer for a pub meal, only thing i couldnt get from Screwfix was my beloved Bacho water pump pliers so i thought id source some on the net while waiting for my grub, this is when alarm bells started to ring i was seeing stuff i purchased from screwfix half as cheap on other sites, ill give an example unleaded solder in screwfix £25, an unnamed supplier it cost £11, i quickly realised i could have saved a ton of money if i could have waited for the delivery but coz this customer needs me to start in the morning i had to do it :( i feel butt raped

anyone else suffered my fate?

It's all swings and roundabouts mate, you'll always get stuff cheaper online as they dont have the overheads to take into account of being a huge company.
I've found Screwfix to be a bit cheaper than most of the other big merchants (apart from the wonderful :yesnod:
Williams & Co | Trade Only Plumbing & Heating Supplies :yesnod:)
They will more than likely take broken stuff back where as buy online and you may as well walk about with it hanging out your bum if it goes kaput(usually).

They have just opened a few stores over here & although I quite like them, I wouldn't think on buying everything there. Frankly they are too expensive for most stuff, or certainly not cheap.
They do have a good variation of things, to be fair & very fast on deliveries.
I think they are linked with B&Q - so what can we expect? def not as good as most trade prices!

I think you will find that you will use Screwfix again, they open late they're open weekends and from my experience if you have a problem with any purchases they refund or replace no messing. You will always find a cheaper price on the web for most things they stock however sometimes you just can't afford to wait on 3 days delivery. oh and sometimes you just need to have a feel or look at the thing you are purchasing just to make sure its right.

If you sign up to plumfix then you'll get a slightly better rate. You'll find that most merchants are expensive until you start placing regular orders and sort out some discounts.

i was desperate for my stuff today and screwfix was the only place i could get my stuff unless i drove 80 miles to a B&Q size of america :)

Think you need to do a search of local plumbers merchants. You'll find other places such as PTS hidden on industrial areas and see if there's a Williams near by - if not they do delivery and have excellent service!

Yes I do know where you coming from
look at this 2no 4"branches £54.04 1 no 4" single socket coupler £18.39
These are from my local supplier just got invoice through today .
That's 2 no branches and 1 no coupler at £72.43 plus vat=£86.92
I bet this makes you feel better .

i know what you guys are saying baout going and research other options but i need them tools for tomorrow in the future ill be using others and ive spoke to Ray he will be gettin my business in the future :)

Screwfix/Plumbfix recently opened a branch in the small town where I live, I'm very impressed with them, very handy for things the local merchants have run out of or don't stock.

i have used Screwfix in the past in other towns and ordered online, last year I was working in the outskirts of Brighton and I needed an unslotted basin clicker waste, I tried 5 different plumbing merchants on the same industrial estate in East Brighton, not 1 stocked this type of waste but Screwfix had them in stock.

Maybe you won't buy tools from Screwfix again but I bet you will use them for something in the near future.

on this island most stuff internet ordered fell on bes by mistake aint they good never had any probs a brummie in Scotland ordering from a brummie sending gear up to Scotland to keep a brummie happy brill

Received my Williams order at lunchtime today, pipe, fittings and unvented cylinder. Asprays and Williams is a great combination. I was in the middle of nowhere but they still found me, prob cos they recognised the van :)

Still struggling to understand how a merchants at the other end of the country can provide a better service than the two less than a mile away.

I dunno how true it is, but the Aspray driver told us that he just followed the sound of gushing water leaks, and wherever that took him, he found Simon.

Whether that is cause or effect, we will never know... :)

That must have been the stream that supplies the property's water :) :)

Couldnt agree more my experiance of williams to date has been overwelmingly good. The couriers are excelent and the packing crates are so good and robust everything arrives pristine. My last packing case was so big infact when I left it outside my house with all the polystyrene and bubble wrap in it after unloading the lovely ideal logic+ magna pro 2 chems and other bits. Someone came along tipped all the packimg material out to blow around the garden and street and stole the crate. I suspect they are living in it now. Fortunately I had allready found a lovely pack of foxes biscuits and some Haribo all compliments of Williams for placing my order. Now if they would just speed up the branch roll out and open up in Milton Keynes. Cant wait for the kicking there going to give the big merchants once they are on their door step.
Oh and Ray those personal packer sign off sheets that your employees pop in the box when they have put the order together and are there for taking resppnsibility for..... genius! Love the little mugshot and there direct dial number. Reasures me that if, (I doubt it will ever happen) there was an mistake or problem it would be dealt with pronto by some one prepared to be accountable.

Have been loking after my fragile dad, his business along with sorting a shed load of other stuff.

things are getting back on track now i hope :)

It's all about time or lack of.

You can complain about screwfix but then where do most people head if there is no decent merchant open near by. If you have time to plan your materials then fine, they will never match a proper plumbing merchants giving a good trade discount.

you could always go to homebase and pay 4 quid an elbow.

lol i m learning fast i tell ya, plumbers i have worked for in the past i havnt given 2 hoots on the equipment fixings/fittings and tools he used but now its my own i know for sure they will be gettin looked after may sound stupid but even my soldering will be precise, not wasting no copper it costs a fortune lol

Don't feel bad - you got what you needed when you did instead of having to wait on delivers which could take a minimum of three days. Them you could have been sent the wrong tools and supplies (this has happened to me). If you've got time to get your gear and can plan ahead go with some of the more reputable suppliers online (don't send your credit card details to that super cheap looking supplier in Russia :reddevil:) otherwise Screwfix do offer some great customer service and they're there when you need them.

Moneywise you'll make it back and more through your trade so take this as a lesson and plan your inventory needs out for future (as best you can - I often find myself making a trip to a B&Q when I could have saved online.) Oh well.

screwfix for me have always been quite good. A little over priced but you get it back at end of month in vouchers (had £300 so far) to keep you coming back. Only buy radiators and odd boiler if its on deal though. Good luck TH!

Hi, Can anyone advise as to why the cold water to my bathroom keeps airlocking? This originally happened about 12 months ago and has happened 3-4 times since. It’s an upstairs bathroom, fed from a tank in the attic. The tank is about 8 Meters away and feeds a bath, sink and toilet. The tank...
