Hi all, is there a minimum height for a washing machine waste trap (jockey stick type)? Seem to recall that it should be no less than 18". Went to a job today where the length was about 10" max, washing machine had been backing up unnoticed for weeks till flat owner below returned from holiday to find ceiling destroyed.

regards

Jim

I don't think there are any regulations covering the height of a standpipe. It is something that would be in the installation booklet but it is generally 26 -36" iirc.

Your'e opinion is appreciated. Not sure what you mean? are you saying that even at 6" height then it should be ok if free to flow to waste? My thoughts are that with a small blockage with such a low stand pipe height it's more likely to overflow than that of say 18"?

no, i mean if it blocks and the stand pipe is 6 foot then it will eventually overflow (in theory, if it dont come out of the sink first!). if you see what i am saying. if i recall, most mi state within 6'' of top of washing machine.

the height of the stand pipe from the floor doesnt realy matter providing the discharge pipe goes up to the top of the machine and back down into the waste(this stops the machine draining out completely which would leave the pump dry) if its backing up its the pipe work thats blocked ive cut the stand pipe down to as little as six inches where the waste piupe level is high and its below work tops

Thanks Guys that's answered the Q.

much appreciated Jim

Hi guys. I'm trying to identify a toilet model before ordering a seat for a customer. I went to what used to be a Roca stockist (they no longer are) and one of the guys there reckoned it might be "The Gap". I went to the new stockist and the guy there disagreed it was "The Gap" and that he'd...
