Hi all.
I have been working in a hospital environment for a couple of years now, have my level 2 plumbing and take on taps, macerators, blockages, classic 3 port valves and a host of other bits.

I work 5 days a week 9-5.
I am currently wanting to take on a few small private jobs on the side, obviously only the jobs I feel confident and comfortable doing.

The point is, I only plan on doing 1-2 jobs a week (if I'm lucky) for a bit of 'pocket money' I don't plan on making lots and so am unsure of insurance.

Obviously I need public liability insurance, however even the most basic cheap quote is close to £25 a month. There is no option to say that I will only be taking on 2ish jobs a week.
The instalments seem way too excessive for what I am planning on doing.

Any one tackled this before?
If your just doing jobs for friends and family, there is still a risk, surely you need insurance then too right?
Any tips or advise etc would be appreciated

Thanks

Edd

1-2 mil should be fine for what your needing it for

and yes you need it else get ready you pay out of your own pocket,

It only takes one job to flood a house or destroy an expensive kitchen.
People who want £10 jobs done don't realise this.

No cheap option bud we all have to pay it just keep a record and proof of what jobs you have done and how much extra you have earned the tax man will want his share . Kop

You should take out an insurance. As Scott above says, it doesn’t take much to do a lot of damage.

KOP mentioned the tax man. If they find out about your ‘bits’, they can assess how many ‘bits’ you did and ask for the tax plus a fine.

I think you need to do this properly. Get insured, pay the taxman and charge accordingly.

Then you’ll be happy and sleep at night.

Okay thanks.
I had realised I would need to pay tax on it, I don't plan on trying to skip that!

I just wondered if there was part time insurance which is half the price or something along those lines.
Oh well, looks like I will have to suck it up and pay the whole hog.
Thanks chaps

Edd

No worries.
Ask for basic plumbing / general plumbing ( I presume no Gas work).

1 million cover, part time.

See what they come back with.

I would expect a couple of hundred quid for that.

You need hot works if your soldering,

Sounds a bargain. Make sure you check the small print, especially for the types of premises covered you intend to work in.

Hi, Can anyone advise as to why the cold water to my bathroom keeps airlocking? This originally happened about 12 months ago and has happened 3-4 times since. It’s an upstairs bathroom, fed from a tank in the attic. The tank is about 8 Meters away and feeds a bath, sink and toilet. The tank...

The fittings below are for a mixer bar attached to a self contained shower. i.e not a wall. The attaching screws have snapped. I could get two new brackets, dismantle that existing one and start again or I could try and re attach via those screws, removing the broken ones from the plate and wall...
