Hi All
I am currently looking for work as a trainee gas service/ repair engineer in the Merseyside area. I am a commercial pipefitter/ heating engineer looking to upskill and move into domestic gas, specifically service and repair but install work would also interest me.
I have over 12 years experience in the building services sector, I served a full Advanced Modern Apprenticeship in Heating and Ventilating and have worked on various commercial developments across the North West and UK, installing first and second fix domestic hot and cold water services, LPHW heating, chilled water systems, gas, sanitary and drainage.
I have worked on some prestigious developments such as BBC MediaCity in Salford Quays and Venue Cymru, and I have built up a fantastic skillset and reputation for good workmanship.
I have wanted to move fully into domestic gas for a while now, and in 2010 I gained my ACS gas qualifications and gas safe registration but I went down the route of going with a fast-trac training provider and then starting out on my own and found it to be somewhat harder than learning in a company who is doing that work day-in day-out and is properly set up and experienced in that respect.
During that time I worked for A local Housing Trust for 2 months unpaid to get some experience domestically doing installs, services and repairs just shadowing an engineer really but it gave me a good insight into the sharp end of the social housing sector.
I have worked for myself a few times doing bathroom installations, boiler swaps, gas safety certificates, cooker installs, general plumbing repairs, and the odd boiler repair- I have changed 1 diverter valve on a combi, 1 3-Port on a Y-Plan, 1 pump, a couple of PCB’s, and a couple of sensors. And I felt a great amount of satisfaction when I could get the systems up and running again and it is definitely where I see my future career rather than commercial installs.
Sometimes I found though working for myself I lacked a little experience on certain things such as fires, and boiler service and repair. But I would usually persevere at faults and if I could not diagnose the cause myself, I would ring the manufacturers technical helpline and go through it with them and get around it that way, and then the component exchange was usually pretty straightforward.
I find myself at a level that I could probably nearly apply for a full position doing gas, but I pride myself on my work being second to none so I am looking for some sort of improver role/trainee or even a full apprenticeship again would be fine.
Wages wouldn’t be an issue either as long as I was being paid something fair for what the job demanded if the situation arose. And I could possibly contribute towards any training if need be.
I am down to earth, very hardworking very conscientious, have a good sense of humour, I can work equally as well alone or in a team, and I feel I would be an asset to any engineering business.
I have masses of experience installing, literally endless, and if need be I could be left alone comfortably doing most things. I can do bathrooms and plumbing to a very good standard, radiators circuits, Boilers, water heaters, commercial plant rooms and vessels, I am at ease quantifying and ordering materials and lliasing clearly with staff and clients. And I have a vast toolkit of hand and power tools, built up over a number of years, and up until recently had my own gas safe registration and public liability insurance.
If there is any possibility at all that there would be a vacancy which may be suitable for me either now or in the future, I would be delighted to hear from you.
