My son (150miles from me) has had an LF fault on his Ideal ISAR wall hung gas Combi boiler since before Christmas so no central heating - lucky he had installed a woodstove & we'd just fitted a new bathroom with an electric shower.
He's had a couple of callouts previously & plumber (acquaintance of his ) has told him it's a crappy boiler & he should brace himself for a new one before long.
Since he is now living alone, my missus is going up in Feb to help with the decoration, the boiler needs to be fixed/replaced or the old biddy, I mean my lovely wife, will freeze to death...
So... is this boiler as crap as everyone online seem to suggest? & hence not worth repairing? House is a fifties built 3 bed semi, ex council property originally with a solid fuel back boiler/cyl/loft tank but converted with this gas Combi at some stage before they bought it 3 years back.
If not worth repairing due to design/age etc, , what would be a good make of boiler to replace it (sorry don't know the boiler size at the mo.)?
Ball park figures for an installation cost (West Oxfordshire <gulp>) would be helpful too.

It’s a naff boiler so I wouldn’t throw money at it. Use the search bar above for recommended boilers as you ask ten engineers you’ll get ten different answers. Get three quotes and ask lots of questions. We don’t discuss prices on here due to geographical variance

Yes they are getting a bit old now pal , Personally I wouldnt like to throw any money at one , the LF fault code can also be a git , sometimes its a very easy fix, sometimes it turns into a head-shrinking nightmare.

OK - thanks for the comments on the boiler - it does sound as poor as he has been told! New boiler it'll be then - I appreciate the difficulty in quoting prices. I've been staggered by what they've had to pay for general groundwork (bases for kennel & shed) in Ox. let alone the price of beer!

Hello all, I’m replacing a concrete paving slab patio in the back yard. The original patio used 50mm deep concrete slabs on hardcore & sand. I’m planning to pour a 100mm deep concrete patio on 100mm hardcore. In order to achieve the same final height to line up with the rest of the patio, I...
