Hi everyone, I am new to this forum and sorry if this is the wrong thread to post. I have been desperate trying to find a solution to this for the past months - so I started noticing a very strong cooking odor filling my bathroom (deep frying smells) Mostly during dinner time and morning but some times afternoon too. First thing I did was deep clean shower traps and sink drain with chemicals and vinegar and bleach etc. Then I bought covers for all the drain holes as the smell kept coming in and also filled any small cracks in floors and walls but that has done little overall. I now think the odor might be coming in from the bathroom exractor fan (no windows) when it is inactive, when I switch it on after a while it seems to be gone and I even cleaned that with no change. Now I am not sure whether it is from a flat below or an adjoining house or just from outside generally (I am on the top floor). Also, just outside my bathroom door there’s a small mantelpiece against the wall (like an old fireplace but not in use) and the smell also came in from gaps in that which I now covered as well. Any advice would be welcome. Many thanks

Where does the extractor vent terminate? It's sound possible that your getting kitchen smells through the vent from neighbouring properties.
I suppose it's also worth asking, if you know or if you can find out. Where does your neighbours cooker extractors terminate?

I’ve asked the landlord and he said the extractor fan is connected to a hollow ducking system and I know the neighbor next door on the same floor rarely cooks. When I first raised this, the landlord brought drain cleaners to both our flats so I doubt it is from the flat next to me

If the other flats are blowing extract into the chimney it'll come out in yours esp. If chimney is blocked or capped.
Thanks, so chimney would also connect to the bathroom extractor? I doubt the landlord would bother cleaning since I’ve raised this so many times already and they just said use deodorant spray for rooms and tape shut any gaps :(

Hi, Can anyone advise as to why the cold water to my bathroom keeps airlocking? This originally happened about 12 months ago and has happened 3-4 times since. It’s an upstairs bathroom, fed from a tank in the attic. The tank is about 8 Meters away and feeds a bath, sink and toilet. The tank...
