need to fit an automatic bypass valve on an s plan 2 valve system as one was never fitted also pump overrun was not working as who installed this never put a separate feed mains to boiler and separate live demand from the wiring centre ,pump overrun now works but bypass needs fitting asap.
all I want to know is there a minimum length of pipe work required valve will be fitted near to pump outlet and back to return on boiler which is a Worcester bosch r1 18 heat only thanks baz

I try and make myself clearer as a guess the pipe length in total of the abv circuit will be about 1.5 metres I'm just need to know is that enough for the bypass circuit to recirculate the boiler when its in pump overrun to cool off heat baz

It will do its job of giving the boiler/pump some flow rate when the valves are off. It's better fitted away from the boiler to remove heat and allowing it to condense correctly.

    Hello All,

Some Boilers require a Bypass measuring a minimum of 6 metres - measured from the Flow connection to the Return connection of the Boiler.

Boiler Bypass pipework is not just to give the Pump somewhere to over-run when the Zone valves close - it is to actually dissipate the Heat from the Boiler Heat Exchanger and prevent the Boiler `High Limit` Thermostat from locking out the Boiler operation.

I cannot emphasise enough that the Manufacturers Installation Instructions should be adhered to regarding the measured length of a Bypass.

Otherwise you may well experience the nuisance of `Boiler Lockout` that would occur if the Bypass is not long enough to dissipate the Heat from the Boiler Heat Exchanger during the Pump over-runs.

    Regards,

    Chris

thanks for all your reply's been in touch with Worcester bosch tec and explained the situation and they say a minimum of 1 metre but when this is done it will but about 2 metres , I've worked on high pressure cooling systems and control systems for broadcast transmitters I'm not touching the boiler just the water side thanks baz

How did you sort the wiring live issue out without taking the case off the boiler?

yes I took the case off to rectify this I'm not breaking any rules as this is my boiler indeed some gas safe engineer's wont even touch wiring I'm totally confident in doing this I'm no here to argue about rules some people get mixed up with law and rules . sure I'm going too find a gas safe registered engineer to service and check the boiler this seems hard to find baz

hi did fit automatic bypass valve and the boiler is now running the pump overrun correctly now and not getting any thermal shock noises from boiler when it used too shut down,
because I had to disable the pump over run its a terrier Yorkshire a. b. v . seems to like about 3.5 mb setting . can anyone help in a simple way to set up sorry if I upset anybody about taking the boiler case off to rectify the wiring I did pass corgi gas safety Couse when I worked on high power transmitters quite a few years ago .
