Brought an Aladdin easy fit isolator for a job rather than drain down the house just to remove the toilet pan but it weighs 13oz / 360gms which seems a lot of weight to put on the copper cistern feed pipe and the only place it can go is right up close to the fill valve plastic stem connection so my Q is would you fit there?

Thanks.

I'd turn the water off and open up the cold taps. Then if needed pop a normal ISO on the feed to the loo. Am I missing something or is there a reason that it's not that simple?

You mean like a live snatch, cut the pipe and quickly fit the normal ISO?
I`m in a smart house and can`t see the customer liking that much or am I the one missing something.

so is the incoming stop tap not working?
is there no street tap?

No, I mean turn the water off, open a couple of taps and within a minute there's no more cold water to come out of the toilet feed so you can fill yer boots as we say in sunny Bolton ;)
It's not like there's cold water stores to drain down before the water stops. Or is there?

There is a cold tank in the loft and customer doesn`t know where to turn the water off in the house since the extension kitchen was added.

Customer doesn`t know where to turn the water off in the house anymore, haven`t looked for outside tap, big house in big grounds.

Ahh I get it now ;)
So this cold tank definitely feeds the toilet?
As above ^^ bung the tank, if there's no way to turn off the mains, what if the alladin doesn't seal or it's 1/2 inch pipe.
I'd definitely want some form of back up isolation if I was cutting in to a pipe.

Also I`m fearful of an airlock in a house this size.

But thanks for all the advice.

Tie up the ballvalve? Piece of pipe accross the tank and tie the ballvalve up to it.

Just bung the cold feed pipe, you dont need a vacuum like bunging the heating system, will work fine and no airlocks

Cheers this does seem the most popular answer.

Wish somebody would yay or nay the original question.

Do a proper job or walk away. First a means to isolate rising main should be found or provided. If client does not appreciate importance, then any future water damage will be serious and the last plumber on the job will be blamed. Get rid of plastic stem and replace with brass stem float valve, brass nut on plastic thread is never good news. If client is too poor to pay or too ignorant to listen you'll do better elsewhere.

Meanwhile, back in the real world where you need to earn a living and can't force customers to have a proper job done...

Nay to the original question, +1 for bunging the cold outlet from the tank. No chance of an airlock as it will always remain under water.

Stress the importance of a working and accesible stop tap , that needs doing ASAP.

Yep bung or freeze pipe

What did you do in the end?

Well I kinda bunged it, that is I bunged the iso valve job back to the plumber who didn`t want to do the old dirty smelly blocked Saniflo and told him to call me when it`s been fitted and I`ll come and do my job.

Proper order!
