Advice for gas jobs

I have recently passed me ACS gas qualifications and registered with gas safe. I am trying to get a role with British gas but it seems the best way in is through sub contracting however British gas have informed me that I also need all my own equipment so need to purchase a gas analyser , have my crb checks down and also go on an energy efficiency course too. i would presume youve done a short course with some training provider and have no experience in maintenance and repair of gas appliances, so you need to get an apprenticeship with british gas not be a subbie as you wont be over successful if you cant identify faults. do you have any plumbing experience to get you going at all?

I am in the same situation as plumbdad, just passed my ACS, I havent registered yet though as I am doing boilers in a couple of weeks, but I am struggling to get my foot in the door with one of the bigger companies, I also have a level 2 in plumbing. how did you guys (the more experienced ones) get started and what advice would you give a newly qualified engineer who is trying to get a start? cheers.
