Length is a measure of distance. In the International System of Quantities, length is a quantity with dimension distance. In most systems of measurement a base unit for length is chosen, from which all other units are derived. In the International System of Units (SI) system the base unit for length is the metre.
Length is commonly understood to mean the most extended dimension of a fixed object. However, this is not always the case and may depend on the position the object is in.
Various terms for the length of a fixed object are used, and these include height, which is vertical length or vertical extent, and width, breadth or depth. Height is used when there is a base from which vertical measurements can be taken. Width or breadth usually refer to a shorter dimension when length is the longest one. Depth is used for the third dimension of a three dimensional object.Length is the measure of one spatial dimension, whereas area is a measure of two dimensions (length squared) and volume is a measure of three dimensions (length cubed).
I've had a 1400x900 shower tray fitted at the end of a 1400 wide bathroom so essentially in an alcove.
I wanted to get a glass panel of just under 1000mm and not bother with a door, that would leave a space of just over 400mm to walk in and out. Do you think that would be ok. No fatties in the...
Hi,
I'm replacing an old concealed shower mixer valve which dripped. Trouble is the pipe inlet spacing is fixed at 130mm and the outlet pipe sits in between the two behind a wall panel. Finding an exact match for the pipe spacing is proving a challenge, but I've come across a few which can be...
I'm replacing my towel radiator in my bathroom. The new one I bought, while it has the same overall dimensions, is slightly narrower than the old one where it is connected to the flow and return pipes.
What are my options here? Is there some sort of adjustable value I can use to sort this or...
Hey guys
Ive carried out some rough calculations as to how much of my concrete floor I'll have to break out to fit a UFH system and I'm concerned about the amount of work involved and the number of skips I'll need and was wondering if I can reduce the amount of digging I need to do.
I was...
I am looking to replace a bedroom radiator, we had one f the same age and design burst a little while back. The one that burst was 1200mm wide X 60mm high. The one I want to replace is 1150 wide X 600 high. I'm acting trouble finding one. There are spacers on either end of 25mm that fit onto the...
Probably been asked before but will ask again. Am fitting out the utility room and having a quandry, if one can have such a thing, as to width of worktop. How do people get away with worktops 600mm deep if they have any sort of pipework going behind without appliances ie washer and dryer...
Hi,
I'm installing a new bathroom upstairs, the waste pipe of which will connect to the existing soil stack.
Is a 110mm pipe the minimum for a branch pipe to remove bathroom waste, or could a smaller pipe be used?
I've been working off the assumption that it is, however a couple of people...

When re-piping (perhaps to replace contorted fleximagigs)
I find you can never view your measuring from an angle that gives you any accuracy. Perhaps some system involving pipe cleaners and bits of string.
Thank you brothers, sisters, comrades and boyfriends.

Just had this email from gas safe, guess all you guys will get it to. It is not before time they did something like this.
We are expected to work to a standard but the standard is a secret unless you can shell out major money.

Hi - My bathroom, plaster to plaster is 143cm. I would like to install a 900x900 shower and 500mm washbasin, leaving only 3cm! Is this enough for tiling, or I am trying to cram in too much? 800x800 shower is pretty small, as is 450 basin. Thought maybe a little of the 900x900 would go into the...
Hi,
sorry if this is a particularly dumb question. The exposed thermostatic valve in my shower finally failed and I managed to find a replacement with the bigger 3/4" inlets. Having finally managed to get the old shower valve off (had to drill out the grub screws!) I've realised that the hot...

Could anyone please point me in the direction of the minimum width required for a toilet? There is a recess / deep alcove in the bathroom, and I am not sure that it is wide enough to fit a toilet (not enough elbow room for sitting down). Thanks
