Daniel Irvin Rather Jr. (; born October 31, 1931) is an American journalist and former national evening news anchor. Rather began his career in Texas, becoming a national name after his reporting saved thousands of lives during Hurricane Carla in September 1961. Rather spontaneously created the first radar weather report by overlaying a transparent map over a radar image of Hurricane Carla. In his first national broadcast, he helped initiate the successful evacuation of 350,000 people.
Rather reported from Dallas in November 1963 at the time that President John F. Kennedy was assassinated. Based on his reporting, he was promoted at CBS News, where he served as White House correspondent beginning in 1964. He served as foreign correspondent in London and Vietnam over the next two years before returning to the White House correspondent position. He covered the presidency of Richard Nixon, including Nixon's trip to China, the Watergate scandal, and the president's resignation.
In 1981, Rather was promoted to news anchor for the CBS Evening News, a role he occupied for 24 years. Along with Peter Jennings at ABC News and Tom Brokaw at NBC News, he was one of the "Big Three" nightly news anchors in the U.S. from the 1980s through the early 2000s. He frequently contributed to CBS's weekly news magazine, 60 Minutes.
Rather left the anchor desk in 2005 following the Killian documents controversy, in which he presented unauthenticated documents in a news report on President George W. Bush's Vietnam War–era service in the National Guard. He continued to work with CBS until 2006, when he was abruptly fired. In September 2007, Rather filed a $70 million lawsuit against CBS and its former parent company Viacom. Rather accused the network and its ownership and management of making him a "scapegoat" in the Killian story. An intermediate New York state appeals court dismissed the lawsuit in September 2009, and the New York Court of Appeals refused to reinstate it in January 2010.On the cable channel AXS TV (then called HDNet), Rather hosted Dan Rather Reports, a 60 Minutes–style investigative news program, from 2006 to 2013. He also hosts several other projects for AXS TV, including Dan Rather Presents, which provides in-depth reporting on broad topics such as mental health care or adoption, and The Big Interview with Dan Rather, in which he conducts long-form interviews with musicians and other entertainers. In January 2018, he began hosting an online newscast called The News with Dan Rather on The Young Turks' YouTube channel.

New filler valve rather loud. Any ideas?

Morning all hope all is well. I recently needed to fix our leaky main bathroom toilet. I thought as I am taking the cistern off the wall I'd replace all the parts so I wouldn't have to worry about it for a few years at least. I installed a new flush valve and a new filler valve. Both work fine...

Removing a radiator with a compression fitting between valve and radiator tail rather than a union fitting

Hi, I am replacing some radiators and using new fittings. Most radiator valves now come with a compression interface rather than a union interface to the radiator tail. It seems to me that it would be rather difficult, if not impossible, to remove a radiator at a later date for decorating when...

Should the pipe from the top of the Water Cylinder be hot rather than warm

Hi all, I have a Megaflo Heatrae Sadia running from a conventionla boiler. The boiler is 12 months old, the cylinder about 6 years old. The cylinder has two separate pipes in at the bottom left, both of which are too hot to hold for more than a second. There is a stone cold pipe going in the...

Hot water ring main in the bungalow roof void rather than screed

We are considering having our house rads and hot water system replumbed so it's not buried in the 1970's screed that it is at the moment. The cement progressively eats away at the copper if it is not wrapped in Denzo tape (no way to tell without digging up the screed). We are thinking of...

Towel rail advice - dual fuel, rather than just electric?

Hopefully this is a quick one... I'm currently building a house (well, my builder is, I'm doing a few of the jobs myself). Originally, we were going to have electric towel rails in the bathrooms, because we were going to have solar panels. We're over budget, so the panels will have to wait...

Condensate filter on a rather long run

Hi all Just to ask. My installer has to run the condensate pipe about 5mtr to a drain. As the boiler is going to be situated in a garage my understanding is that is classed as external if it’s in the garage. I saw somewhere that 3 meters is about max and it's only .5 metes inside the garage the...

Can inhibitor cause problems rather than prevent them?

After installing new rads no inhibitor was used, the reason given was that it can cause problems rather than prevent them. The system has been without for approx 4 years now and I've got an Atmos multi boiler, is this advice correct? thanks.

    Condensing Boiler Recommendation

I need to replace a 22 year old vented wall mounted gas boiler with a heat only 30 kW condensing boiler. This is in a 4 bed 1.5 bathroom property I am flipping, so I am looking for a cheaper solution rather than an installation that I would have to live with. What are the cheapest and easiest...

another option rather than adey radiator agitator?

Afternoon All.. Just a quick question... with regards to the magna cleanse.. you have to agitate the radiators by purchasing the agitator.. which seems a lot of money (around £40-50) for what it actually is.. Is there anything else that you can use rather than purchasing that? Any ideas...

i'm starting to think plumbing is a rather safe job

so my dad used another tree climber today, highly recommended. turns out he has a fondness of listen to his fooking ipod under our lovely walky talky ear defenders. so his instructions of tie up, strip the top and THEN top it fell on bloody deaf ears. so he went and topped it straight away...
