Pan-Africanism is a worldwide movement that aims to encourage and strengthen bonds of solidarity between all indigenous and diaspora ethnic groups of African descent. Based on a common goal dating back to the Atlantic slave trade, the movement extends beyond continental Africans with a substantial support base among the African diaspora in the Americas and Europe.Pan-Africanism can be said to have its origins in the struggles of the African people against enslavement and colonization and this struggle may be traced back to the first resistance on slave ships—rebellions and suicides—through the constant plantation and colonial uprisings and the "Back to Africa" movements of the 19th century. Based on the belief that unity is vital to economic, social, and political progress and aims to "unify and uplift" people of African descent. At its core, pan-Africanism is a belief that "African people, both on the continent and in the diaspora, share not merely a common history, but a common destiny". Pan-Africanist intellectual, cultural, and political movements tend to view all Africans and descendants of Africans as belonging to a single "race" and/or sharing cultural unity. Pan-Africanism posits a sense of a shared historical fate for Africans in America, West Indies, and on the continent, itself centered on the Atlantic trade in slaves, African slavery, and European imperialism.Pan-African thought influenced the establishment of the Organisation of African Unity (now the African Union) in 1963. The African Union Commission has its seat in Addis Ababa and the Pan-African Parliament has its seat in Johannesburg and Midrand.

    Pan Connector problem

Hi, does anyone have any recommendations for what pan connector arrangement would be best suited for a side entry soil pipe with 3” vertical offset? New cistern leaking into pan

Bedding a WC pan down in cement

I know this works - best used as a last resort - but not sure why.. I was thinking it might be less to do with adhesive properties as it is to do with creating a solid lump inside stopping the pan moving left/right/forward/back. Is that right? Because often when you come to remove a pan that...

    Cutting back cast iron soil

To connect a WC, cutting back for more space. I did this once before many years ago with a cheap grinder. I seem to remember the result wasn't very neat and covered the whole room in iron dust. Does anyone here tackle one of these with a hawsaw or do you just grind and bear it? Any tips...

    Is this a pan connector?

Silly question but almost looks like a soil bend fitting to me, plus it's green. I need to change the pan connector. Looks like it goes into some other fitting which is inside the soil. What bits best to use if you please, plumbchums?

Running water in toilet pan until I lift the cistern lid

Hi, I have running water into the toilet pan after flushing. It is not the overflow as the water level stops below the overflow. The water in the cistern does not start rising after flushing. That is until I lift the cistern lid off. Doing this immediately allows the water level to rise. Not...

    Space saver/swan neck pan connectors.

Installed hundreds of bogs and never used one but had one on the van for years. Needed a 90 degree pan con and didn't have one and thought I'd try the swan neck with a straight pushed into it (the custard wouldn't have cared, there were piles of cat turds in the bath and I had to dress up like...

w/c pan fixing points directly over c/h 22mm flow and return pipes.

The subject line says it all! The new close coupled pan/cistern I have to fit has its fixing holes directly over the main 22mm c/h pipes. I'd have to pack the cistern off by about 30 mm. to clear the pipes. I'll fix with some short screws that don't penetrate the flooring but what else can I do...

I need to connect a WC to a horizontal soil pipe - the problem is that the centres are only 150mm apart from where the pipe enters the floor. I also need to connect the basin waste somewhere. This connection is within a cabinet behind the WC, so have about 300mm depth to play with too - the...
