monobloc
A monobloc or en bloc engine is an internal-combustion piston engine where some of the major components (such as cylinder head, cylinder block, or crankcase) are formed, usually by casting, as a single integral unit, rather than being assembled later. This has the advantages of improving mechanical stiffness, and improving the reliability of the sealing between them.
Monobloc techniques date back to the beginnings of the internal combustion engine. Use of the term has changed over time, usually to address the most pressing mechanical problem affecting the engines of its day. There have been three distinct uses of the technique:
Cylinder head and cylinder
Cylinder block
Cylinder block and crankcaseIn most cases, any use of the term describes single-unit construction, opposed to the more common contemporary practice. Where the monobloc technique has later become the norm, the specific term fell from favour. It is now usual practice to use monobloc cylinders and crankcases, but a monobloc head (for a water-cooled inline engine at least) would be regarded as peculiar and obsolescent.
Hi I have a monobloc mixer tap which is 18mths old. a leak appeared underneath in the cupboard which looked to be coming from the flexi tail M8 end I replaced the new tails but when connecting up (hand tight)the leak is worse, is this a tail issue or could it be a cartridge perhaps, I have used...
I have an Moretti Aria monobloc kitchen tap with solid tap heads and no grub screws on the tap body. How do I gain access to change the cartridges please?
Hi, I'm trying to remove the kitchen tap, it was installed around 2009. I can't seem to unscrew the connector, I've tried a variety of tools from a basin wrench to plumbers grips, access is tight but I can't move it. Can anyone give me any advice? I have called my plumber but he hasn't responded...
It's leaking beads through the top of the swivel ring, but I don't think from the base.
I've replaced the valve cartridge, but no change.
Help, please. If the whole tap needs tightening from below, what are the tools?
Pictures of tap above sink and of connection below.
Thanks.
Dave.
I have a head height problem for the storage tank and needed a solution that would allow the monobloc to heat from the bottom of the tank
I have now sorted the issue with 2 tanks in series, both single coil
The smaller one has solar heating and this then provides cold, warm or hot water to the...
Anyone coming across these tap fixing components. I'm struggling to find a box spanner to fit. The nut is about 33-34 mm between flats. New install and as far as I can see nothing apart from a box spanner will tighten this. Unless you have the opportunity fit before installing sink.
Back in the 1980's we bought a few of the above which have ceramic disc cartridges. Generally been very reliable although have dripped which I think was caused by tiny pieces of grit scoring surfaces. Our water supply is from a reservoir and when the Water Authority did routine cleaning water...
Hi lads just a quick one, can you fit isolation valves straight onto monobloc copper tap tails. I know they are soft copper i have always soldered onto them and never used compression fittings but on this job i need to fit valves on. I may even go as far as chucking push fit iso valves if need...
Just replaced my ageing basin and bath taps and wastes with appropriate Bristan equivalents. All but one have conventional valves; , the one exception – a N SNK EF C 1901 Easyfit Kitchen Sink Mixer monobloc – has ceramic cartridges and both H and C turn the ‘wrong’ way (clockwise to turn on)...
I use Loctite 55 thread for sealing half-inch and similar BSP male screw-threads. But when fitting a monobloc tap with the tiny 10mm threaded tails where the Loctite thread looks too fat, should I rely on the O-ring (with a dab of silicon lube) for sealing, one turn of PTFE, a smear of Loctite...
I've a customer having bought a Bathstore ex-display monobloc tap. It had no tails, and I got some 8mm flexi, hoping they'd fit (10mm too large). The dia *feels* right (deeply recessed fitting), but only turns a fraction leading me to think the thread is incorrect.
Any advice what I should be...
I've just fitted a monobloc basin tap. There were tails supplied with it but it impossible to tighten them with a spanner as the ends are sunk up inside the tap. On the instructions that came with the tap the tails are shown with what looks like a couple of inches of rigid section to connect to...
Hi,
I have a Twin lever Monobloc mixer tap leaking from the base of the spout, there are many answers to this problem online, however, the majority of issues are when the water is on and the tap is running, in my case, the base of the spout is leaking when the taps are off.
Would this mean...
The tap was leaking from its body (under the 2-way swivel handle; where you access the big brass nut and the cartridge) when turned ON more that a little bit. I've replaced the cartridge and it leaks in same way.
It doesn't drip from the spout nor leak when turned off. So, as far as I can see...
Would be very grateful for any comments about the following:
Had new kitchen fitted at end of last year - same company supplied and fitted.
I have a dispute that the tap fitted is not fit for purpose.
I think the flow from the hot water tap is unacceptably slow.
It takes ~ 4 1/2 mins to fill a...
I know it is not normal practice to use a replacement HOT water ceramic valve/cartridge in COLD water monobloc mixer tap. However, I have been told by my supplier that they are awaiting stock of the cold water valves/cartridges and apparently they come from China and could be some weeks before...
I guess this might seem a stupid couple questions to the pro plumber but to the diyer which I am I would like to know the answers. Question 1. I have a Wickes Chantiily ceramic kitchen monobloc mixer tap as per attached photo and would like to know wether these are classed as clockwise or...
Help needed please. Can anyone enlighten me how to access the cartridge/valve on Wickes Kumai monobloc kitchen sink mixer taps. I have looked everywhere on the taps for an allen type screw to enable me to remove the cartridge/valve cover. The last mixer tap I had there was a allen type screw on...
