loft
A loft is a building's upper storey or elevated area in a room directly under the roof (American usage), or just an attic: a storage space under the roof usually accessed by a ladder (primarily British usage). A loft apartment refers to large adaptable open space, often converted for residential use (a converted loft) from some other use, often light industrial. Adding to the confusion, some converted lofts include upper open loft areas.
Hey guys
I've "repaired" my mums loft water tank from leaking but I'm unsure if I've done it correctly so thought I'd join this great forum and ask some advice from some people much smarter than me.
Basically my Mum was worried that her overflow from the loft kept running water so I went...
Hi,
We have a problem at home with water coming from overflow pipe from the cold water tank in the loft. Now i know the most common fault is the valve but its not this as its been replaced and i've seen it for myself that the valve is shut but water still overflowing out. I have done some...

Hi!
I recently bought a new build for my terminally ill wife. I think the place is great but I'm worried about two things I hoped somebody could help me with.
One is actually the roof - it has soffit vents only - somebody else told me ridge vents would also be good not only for ventilation but...
HI all,
I am currently in the process of having a loft conversion done, of which I need to upgrade/change the heating and hot water system as the house will be a 5bedroom with 1bathroom and 2 showerooms once complete.
I currently have a Worcester Bosch condensor boiler which is 24kw, which has...

Hi all, I'll try and make this as simple as possible.
We had a new Megaflow pressure system installed, new pipes included.
When taps are run in the ground and 1st floor, there is no water in loft, otherwise we have good pressure in loft. We were told as a result, air gets to the loft, and...
Sorry for this off topic post. As plumbers I guess some of you may have come across pigeons in lofts?
Just found about 4 pigeons in the loft and I think they have been there a while!! I can see daylight at the eves, so guessing that's how they have got in but also the dividing wall between us...
Hi all, wonder if I can pick your brains for a minute please....
I've recently installed a new radiator and towel rail in an old loft extension with no previous heating but I can't for the life of me get the towel rail tho heat up.
I've Tee'd off from the 1st floors (floor below) flow and...
My stack appears to vent into the loft, presumably using an air admittance vent, as there are no odours coming from it until you lift off the vent. Can this just be teed into with a new branch waste pipe (inc. toilet and shower waste) or would I have to extend the pipe to the outside?
Hi all
Recently moved into an old terraced house- in the loft is a very dirty looking water tank that has seen better days. With the house having a combi boiler i thought it was redundant and was going to empty it and get rid of it whilst the roof came off. But to my horror it supplies at least...

Greetings all.
I am a new house owner confused about the water system in our home. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
We have two cold water tanks in our loft. One large 50 gallon, another small 5 gallon. The small tank is full up to just below the mid-point of the overflow outlet...

Noticed water stains on ceiling - Inspected cold water tank - has 5 low level pipes going into it, a high level connection for the balcock and an overflow one. It is a black plastic tank about a metre long by 60x60 approx (just an estimate by eye). Can't see any leaks around the pipes. It was...

Hi, I'm looking for some preliminary advice, and grateful for any which can be given.
We live in a third floor flat which has awful water pressure from the mains. There is often no cold water coming through at all, which can last hours. We are looking at installing a water tank in the loft to...
hi
I have a leak in the bottom of my loft water tank, I think it's a 50 gallon one but I'm not sure. The measurements are 45inches by 23inches wide,23inches deep
It's going to be really hard to get it out and to replace it as it seems to have been built into place I might get it out if I...
Evening,
I have just come from a call out to deal with a leaking CWSC - 220l 50 gal, a rectangular plastic tank that had sprung a leak and was in the process of leaking through the ceiling.
I have drained and removed it to one side to allow the base to dry out, capped off the inlet, can anyone...
The overflow from loft in the attic is dripping outside on occasions and feel that the problem is in the header tank. Unfortunately being retired unable to get into the attic as body is not as flexible as it used to be and have no wish to fall. Could you give me some idea of cost in someone...
