Tankless water heaters — also called instantaneous, continuous flow, inline, flash, on-demand, or instant-on water heaters — are water heaters that instantly heat water as it flows through the device, and do not retain any water internally except for what is in the heat exchanger coil. Copper heat exchangers are preferred in these units because of their high thermal conductivity and ease of fabrication.
Tankless heaters may be installed throughout a household at more than one point-of-use (POU), far from or without a central water heater, or larger centralized whole house models may still be used to provide all the hot water requirements for an entire house. The main advantages of tankless water heaters are a plentiful, practically limitless continuous flow of hot water (as compared to a limited flow of continuously heated hot water from conventional tank water heaters), and potential energy savings under some conditions due to the use of energy only when in use, and the elimination of standby energy losses since there is no hot water tank. The main disadvantage of these systems are their high initial costs (equipment and installation).
Hi all,
I've just moved into a new house, it current has a solid fuel burner (kiln dried logs and / or smokeless coal nuggets) that is used for heating the radiators and providing hot water. It's my father-in-laws house that we've moved into and he's told me it's "the best" way to heat the...
The central heating circuit is slightly low on pressure so I tried to top it up with the built in filling loop. Nothing happens. No mains water gets pushed into the heating return pipe. I disconnected the filling loop on the heating side to test the double-check valve, and mains water comes...
Hi All,
Firstly Happy New Year to everyone! New to the forum and was after some advice please.
I am having renovation work done to my property starting next week. As part of the renovation work I am having two additional bedrooms in the loft (dormer). The property currently is a 3 bedroom...
Have a Alpha InTec 30c combi that gives me hot water but boiler cuts out after 30 seconds when calling for heating. It then restarts and tries to go for another 30 seconds and restarts. When I turn on hot water for around 15mins then swap to heating, the boiler then works... Could diverter...
Hi guys, looking for some advise on my Grant Vortex 26. Had a big leak for the heat exchanger last year which ran down to the hot water pump and shorted it out. I replaced the pump with new and new olive on the offending pipe. But since then have a couple of issues.
1) The hot water tank sounds...
Hi, I just wanted to ask if the receiver of a wireless thermostat would use the current wiring I have to a external programmer? I have a Baxi platinum 28 boiler.
Hi all,
We had a new combo boiler (Intergas eco RF) installed about six months ago. When we are using the central heating and then use hot water, the boiler turns off (error code 4 - ignite). The boiler is fine when using hot water when central heating is off, and central heating is fine until...

Hi all,
I've had a look through the forum and seen a few threads about combi boilers losing pressure, but still haven't worked out what the issue with ours is.
New combi boiler installed a few months ago (previously had a separate hot water tank). We top up the pressure to approx 1.6 and...
Hi, so my combi boiler is connected to a thermostat but changing the radiator/CH temp on the boiler only lets me max out at 30, i’m not sure what temperature i should set it at or if it is supposed to be able to go higher
When I run TT through the relay no heat activation. When I by pass relay to a single thermostat works as intended. Triple checked wiring seems correct.
I have I have an Ideal C35 boiler. We have really low water pressure from all the hot taps (should be getting 15 litres per min if using more then one stood completely).
On Friday Ideal came out and changed the diverter valve, heat exchange and motor but it has made no difference.
The cold...
Morning everyone,
Now that the outside temperature is decreasing the incoming water such as DHW is cooler, is turning the DHW dial to around 55 degrees Celsius on a gas combi boiler reasonable and safe. My boiler goes from a minimum of 37 to max 60 degrees according to the manual.
From summer...
Hello,
I hope somebody can help with this - I've just been trying to reset the service reminder on my Ideal Logic Combi Esp1 35 boiler. In the end, I was told to go into installer mode. When I got to the Service bit, right at the end, pressing 'restart' brought up a list of numbers to cycle...
Hi all,
At our old flat, we had a combi boiler which dealt with heating and hot water without an additional tank. There was an external timer next to the boiler, and a room thermostat (manual) in the hallway. I was able to replace the latter with a receiver and wireless (not smart) thermostat...

Hi everyone,
I hope you may be able to offer some advice and/or opinions.
I'd really like to install a smart thermostat for our boiler. Due to health conditions, I myself am particularly sensitive to temperature changes and have poor mobility, and therefore find the current traditional dial...
Hi,
Getting an extension built as well as some alterations to the layout of our house. Been quoted £6k incl VAT for the plumbing and heating aspects of the work (see below for details). Just want a finger the air idea if it's reasonable or if we're not getting ripped off. I've been in touch...
Morning all.
Just after some advice. Im looking at having a combi boiler fitted. Have 15 rads (some are extremely large) one main bathroom and a separate shower.
