I've had problems with our main drain blocking for about 10 years now. Every 9-12 months it blocks and I had to rod it. I had it down to a fine art with a 20 meter length of class 10 HDPE pipe and it usually took me about 15 minutes.

I tried clearing it last week and for some reason it just wouldn't clear so I got in a company with one of those water pump and snake machines. 2 hours later they gave up and suggested I start digging. So I did.

The rodding eye in the middle of the hole was conveniently located almost a foot underground below the brick paving.

I took some consolation in that even if it had been accessible it wouldn't have been much help.

Not a pleasant job mate but looks like you have it sorted always a pita to connect two fixed points . Cheers kop

Looks good never seen the pvc in that much of a state normally just cracks or a bit falls off but not half the pipe :D

I keep seeing "new" work without "rodding" points - are BCO's blind these days?

They don't see them as they don't have to be inspected

I thought it might have been tricky to repair with both pipes being fixed and I even bought what's know locally as a Kimberly coupling which slides all the way onto a pipe but it was pretty easy to get everything fitted and I didn't need the special fitting.

Interesting marvoni Looks like a neat job. Whatever about the need for rodding eyes, I didn't realise you could use 1 1/2" pipe underground - don't clearly do much drainage! Wondering now how this connects to the main drainage? Whatever, as your case would seem to illustrate, 4" would seem at least better practise

Why not just heat one of the pipes with your blowtorch and bend it tighter. Then you could just use one of those 60's and a coupling.

The pipes and fittings are all 110mm which is pretty close to 4 inch.

I'm not the fastest worker but I finally got the driveway finished. So far so good, the drain has been fine but I guess I'll only know for sure over the next 12 months.
