these are annoying me more and more - servicing them, and fitting the buggers!!!!!!!

any tips ??? at the moment im using the adjustable pan connector and flexi from the cold feed to the cistern, then pushing it back - just seems hit and miss with pan connector - sometimes leaks.

i assume tou mean pans that fit flush to the wall so you cant get at bugger all ?
if yes i agree work of satan in the same league as black guy lines on tents
 
:mad: Yes spent 3 hours yesterday get to the job the installer had decided not to put a iso valve in, then the gate valve doesnt shut off supply completly.

Friday afternoon :mad: cut pipe whack on pushfit iso, no room to get inlet valve off, take cistern of. Inlet valve wont come off some gerbit valve with a flexi hose. Not seen one before, so hacksaw it off.

Fit new inlet valve and reassemble and hey presto the drop valve is occassionally letting water through,

I ask you some of thes designers should be shot. :D
 
they also have a strengthening cross section moulded across the bottom meaning if the cold feed pipe comes out of the floor you cant just push the bugger back :( we even cut it off once.
 
Got asked to fit one where the soil pipe comes out of the ground. Fortunately the water inlet was OK as there was nothing there before and I could choose where to put it through the wall.

To get the pan in place I used a load of small pieces of ply stacked on top of each other to stand the pan onto, fitted the pan connector and positioned the pan over the soil pipe. By removing one piece of ply at a time to drop the pan, and easing the pan connector into the soil pipe a bit at a time as I went, I found this to be a satisfactory method.
 
Another tip. Once you have got the pan connector cut to the correct length, glue the rubber seal thingy onto it so that it does not slide up the tube when you are lowering the pan.

It is always best to discuss the various merits and difficulty of fitting it with the customer before they purchase one as opposed to a standard pan.

i had a similat problem with one i fitted at my sons flat solid bar of china across the bottom and side fixings so it wouldnt slide back luckily it wasnt completely back to wall
and i managed to use a fernco rubber pushed onto the 4inch dropped the pan straight down and the slid the rubber forwards onto the pan spigot and tightened the jubblies with a small 1/4 drive ratchet
the 1/4 drive ratchet set is not some thing i used to carry round with me but recently i seem to be using it more and more rad fixings are now 10 0r 13 mm hex a lot of other fixings as well great for jubilee clips as a screw driver often slips and a socket doesnt stab you like a screwdriver
 
My local merchant now stocks a flexi pan connector which has a jubilee clip type connection onto the pan spigot, very similar to the type you get on a saniflo. Its much easier to fit these awkward type pans if the connector cant fall of the spigot, also really useful on some awkward back to wall installs. I think they might be Mcalpine.

Hi NickH, I'm looking for a pan connector like you describe above, but cant find anything from Mcalpine's? Can you provide any more info please?
 
Not that I can see from their web-site, Winston. I want one that fastens onto the spiggot with a jubilee clip, rather than just push fit? But thanks anyway.
 
the other thing i hate about these is the seats that have to be fitted first if the seat fails its a pan out job:mad:
 
They are definately Mcalpine although I dont think they are on their website.

I have a leaflet for them and the part no. is WC-F21R 4" outlet

and WC-F21S 3 1/2" outlet
