REDSAW

Would you believe it.?

came home for a cuppa, talking to the family when a 'whoosh' then crunch sounded in the lounge comming from the front of the property.
wife shouts 'martin, quick'. pops my head through the front window and within a nano second i thought, not again:sad_smile:.
we rushed out side to find this............:veryangry2:

this happend about 18 months ago also, someone up the road on the hill left their hand brake of and the car ran down the hill, took out the privet at the time and we had a new fence installed (hence the second driveway for the land rover, a by-product). the woman who's car it was, only bought it 3 weeks prior.
sod me, same house, new owners bought the car 2 weeks ago same thing happens.

the damage to the car is worse than it looks too. the wheel rim is damaged and the tyre is now flat, it is also believed the stearing rack etc is naffed too. her indoors is well pleased about it having just spent £6-700 on new flywheel and clutch-not!. i thought the whole thing was unbeliveably ammusing at first untill the she gave me 'the look' when the cops arrived....

bmw x1 on its way tommorow on loan and the wifes insurance co/, the cheeky gits, want £6 a day insurance cover off us in case it gets dammaged, last time we had the hire car for a month.:90:.

lucky no one was hurt martin spent 800 quid on my rover rebuilding the front end after a smack, then some git scratched the newly sprayed bumper then a tile come off next doors roof and put a nice dent in it

People who leave their vehicles out of gear when leaving them unattended annoy the crap out of me. The handbrake is not meant to be a means of securing the car. The gearbox is. It's in the highway code. Why would you not just put it in gear? OMG I can feel my blood boiling! Lol!

Is that true?
I always leave manuals in gear but was discussing this point the other day.

it is in 1st if aiming up hill in reverse if aiming down you should turn your wheels in to the house side as well

I always leave in 1st gear when parked, always have done.

I do this and always have done as it makes sense to me - but I didn't realise it was in the highway code.

Yep. Why anyone wouldn't leave a car in gear is beyond me. Four stopped wheels instead of 2, 2 forms of stopping the car, one which is unlikely to fail or loose grip when they contract from cooling. No brainer.

this has happened to me right after i passed my test, offered to pay for damage to my neighbours car to save the increased insurance costs, luckily it was only around £200 worth of damage...lesson learned and now I always leave it in gear, or in reverse if facing downhill.

I always leave n gear, mainly as u do not trust a cord to hold out on a hill on a cold. Titian night.
I didn't know it was highway code though!

In our village the village square is on a slope. Someone staying at the pub parked up one night without leaving it in gear. People woke up to hear a crashing noise as the car rolled back into two other cars, then ended upside down in the beck at the bottom.

how does that work on a rwd car then?

not having looked at a highway code for a while i didnt know that it was now standard practice to leave cars in gear and just asked my daughter and boyfriend who both passed their test in last 3 years and they hadnt heard it either
it was never considered good practice

here's a heads up lads.

check with your insurance provider who they contract to handle your non fault claims.
ours is 'drive assist', and i warn you now, go else where as they will have your pants down. i will not disclose here but google it and take a read on some blogs!!!!!.
my wife is a total wreck at the moment and it is not on. we have called the insurance company on many occasions (swinton) to be automatically put through to these jokers who are handling the case. we cannot get any personal advice from anyone.
the car that has been provided is unsuitable for our needs as a 'replacement vehicle of the same size or larger' as pulled from their own terms and conditions to which they couldnt care less as long as they get the revenue from the third party for a top of the range motor we do not want. we now have a problem getting my daughter and all her stuff to leeds university on thursday where we have also booked a hotel, where as the rav4 wouldnt have been a problem. we are told if we cancell the hire of the car to organise our own, then we will have to pay for it at £180 per day and is not recoverable from third party. big con on a grand scale as they have 32,000 vehicles nationwide.

check out the dammage to the rav4 she has owned it for around 18months, it cost us £4,500, spent £6-800 on a new flywheel 3 weeks ago.
an off the record chat with the repairers, it could be a right-off we will have to discuss it with drive assist.

how far do you think they will want me to bendover, and how much will they offer me the beamer for?.
