Hello,

I have a vented heating system in my small end of terrace three bedroom house. Generally the system works well but I find that I get a lot of air in the system. The air tends to collects in one of the radiators - I find that I need to bleed it every two or three days in the winter (when the heating is on everyday). This seems excessive! Is the air drawn into the system when the pump starts up?! Does anyone have any suggestions how to remedy the problem?

carefully set fire to the air next time you bleed,if it burns its hydrogen a by product of corrosion in which case you need a de scale
 
Wow! sounds drastic, I'll give it a go in a couple of days (just bled it about 20mins ago).

I've tried to set fire to some of the air bled from the system and it does not burn. I also drained off about a pint of water from one of the radiators and the colour of the water is almost totally clear with just a very slight yellow hint. Does this mean that there is no corrosion problem? Do you have any other ideas how the air might be getting into the system?

probably from the pump!

poor location of the heating pump is a common culprit, basically what happens is the pump draws air in from the open vent.
if poss post a couple of pics then we can tell if the pump is incorrectly positioned.

might be my old eyes but i cant see a vent in that pic and what looks like just a cold feed coming in before the pump
 
just realised you had marked pipework yes it looks like vent cold feed is in wrong place

you could try having the the vent and cold feed moved, but if i was doing that i would make it a combined cold feed and exspansion
 
hmm it looks like it is a combined vent and feed via a reducing tee!

can you tell us whether the problem has always existed or has it just recently started up? it could be drawing air in from elsewhere.
