Hi,

I've recently purchased a grohe rimless toilet and found this component. What is it and do I need it? I was expecting everything that I would need in the cistern to be already in place?? Please can you help? Thanks

Right hand piece is an inlet strainer saves any rubbish going up the ball valve

I’m guessing left is a flow restrictor for the inlet
 
Thanks for that. There was some paperwork that came with it but I still can't understand if I need it and if I do how do I go about fitting it? I paid s fair amount for the toilet and was hoping it would be a simple install.

tbh i never fit them

but to fit them follow the instructions 1st pic

tbh if you cant follow them good luck installing the toilet and setting it up
 
If the water supply to the WC is mains, you'll most likely need the restrictor as well as the filter.

If it's tank fed, no restrictor, (unless you live in a ground floor flat of a tower block)
 
Install the fill valve in the cistern first then slip them up the stem just as you connect the pipe underneath.
 
The toilet is fitted and plumbed to the inlet (builder did this)only i discovered this part at a later stage. The builder did not even bother mentioning it and now he's away on another job. I open the cistern and look inside and think wth. I thank you for all your advice but I still don't know 1. If I need it and 2. How to remove the innards of the cistern( which all seem securely attached) and fit it?? Sorry guys but I need a bit (lot) more help!
 
Well you're builder installed it & as we all know builders know everything so just get him back & he can explain if you need it & the reason's why.
As mentioned above by Snowhead the reason's they are fitted or not are correct supply dependant.

How long has the toilet been fitted?
 
A simple 2 minute job you may or may not need it depending on your water pressure possibly a good idea to fit the filter though it slides into the inlet of the valve. Tkop
