Hi all

I need to identify supplier or manufacturer of 32mm blue MDPE pipe (long story, best not to ask!)

The pipe has these markings every half metre or so.

H2081218 11/12/2018 19:45:01 EN12201 RADIUS 32MM x 3MM SDR11 PE80 12.5 BAR 0.28 KG/MT 32MM x 100M CO-EXTRUDED PIPE000146371 UNCOIL<<<<

Obviously most of the markings are generic and date/time stamps. I'm not sure if the final numbers after the word pipe are a product code or just random.

Any help would be really appreciated to help identify a manufacturer or supply outlet, if anyone is familiar with using this type of pipe.

Cheers

Sorry to say no chance best option start looking for the paperwork

Why do you need to identify the manufacturers?

Doing a favour for someone who recently had this pipe fitted. Has caused a fair bit of water damage on site. Original groundworker now vanished off the face of the Earth. Basically trying to find out if a proper manufacturer makes the pipe or who sells the pipe as a starting point for insurance claim.

Where did it leak from ?

About half way along a twenty metre length but under the house at that point. Pipe appears to have just ruptured with no external factors obvious as to why. Of course I don't know what condition the pipe was in during installation but the rest of it looks fine

Was it pulled in ?

Fed in through ducting from what I've seen. No damage to the ducting. Really just looking to find out if someone can say if they recognize pipe as from a known manufacturer/retailer with normally good reliability or some cheap imported c#@p from the internet

Removed post - as it was installed in a duct.

It looks legitimate PE80 32mm MDPE blue poly has a inside diameter of 26mm so 3mm wall thickness.

Sadly there doesn’t appear to be anything to prove the manufacturer in those markings. There just date codes and standards to which to product was manufactured.

A bitter pill to swallow I know but I’d claim off home insurance if at all possible. Best case if you go down the litigation route you spend 18 months getting engineers reports etc to prove the pipe was faulty. At which point you’re still likely to be out of pocket for at least part of legal cost, engineers reports as well as 18months of agro. Worst case you don’t get paid out and end up paying there legal fees/costs too.

Without proof of purchase I think you’re going to have a tough time getting a manufacturer to even come and look at it. Even if they do they have a get out of jail card of if it was installed correctly or damaged prior to installation.

The pressure test should have show any weakness before the pipe was ever put into service.

Offshore Gas- Thanks, much as I was thinking really. Still looking to get hold of the original WIAPS registered groundworker(work in progress) as no works completed certificate was issued (to an elderly relative of mine) Bit of a bodger by the looks of things. I've noticed since that a lot of this sort of pipe has British Standard (BS) in front of the EN marking and/or kitemark and wasn't sure if this indicated the use of sub-standard materials.

That’s pretty shitty, I’d want to hunt them down with a claw hammer too.

Have you tried going through the bank? If you’ve made a card payment/bank transfer rather than case? We’re they directly employed by your relative or a sub contractor of company you’ve employed?

If there a sub contractor your claim would be against the main contractor.

Historically each country has set standards for goods and services. There is literally one for everything from size of copper pipe to the voltage coming out the wall. To reduce barriers to trade these have been harmonised across the EU becoming Euro Norms.

When the pipe was installed it should have been pressure tested. I’d normally expect this to be to 1.5 times working pressure. If this was done you’d expect the pipe to fail then.

Yeah that would be my choice of tool to rebalance the situation..The individual in question is having a little game of hide and seek at present. Directly employed and thankfully paid on CC so already on that. Don't really know what went on with the actual work re pressure testing etc so would just be guessing on that side of things. WIAPS are "looking into it" but I don't know if that's a dog with any teeth when push comes to shove

Hi, the manufacture of the pipe is Radius Systems, I'm a merchant and stock their MDPE, please see below two pictures, one made by Radius and one by Peak Pipes.

Askaris 5292. Thanks for that info. Out of interest are there many merchants across UK who stock this pipe, particularly the south east.

Hi, I think there are quite a few that sell their product, I’ve sold loads of coils and haven’t heard of any issues personally, but I have seen damaged pipes where they have been dragged along the ground or caught with forklifts and it’s cut the pipe or taken chunks out which if they aren’t notice may cause it to fail
