Hi all,

I’ll try and be brief but also bare in mind I am trying to be as clear as possible to explain what I am asking.

So, moving into a house. Want to fit a dishwasher into the space shown. It’s fine it measures 60 wide, no problem. But it isn’t deep enough.

The sole reason is there is a gas pipe in the way. I’ve attached 3 photos.

Image 1: showing the cupboard it needs fitting and the pipe.
Image 3:The other the current setup inside the cupboard.
Image 2 This photo shows where the pipe comes out (from the cooker) and shows the back of the cupboard (this can come out, if needs be) and the also shows the gap behind where the cupboard ends and the brick wall is.

So here’s my question, can we move the gas pipe so it comes out of the back of the cooker, straight into behind where the current back of the cupboard is and fits where it needs to be. If we can do this we can fit on the depth required for a dishwasher and then plum it into the sink that’s is just out of view.

Is that possible? I don’t mind if we still have a similar setup but it is further back on the wall. The depth of the pipe is the issue, not the setup.

That gas isolation valve needs to be accessible mate. Whats on the other side of the oven?

You can`t but there are people who can, is that what you meant?

The answer is yes, valve can be behind oven but you will lose the corner part of unit and to stay within regs you will either need a GSR engineer, convince yourself your competent enough or become a statistic hope this helps

I would burn cereal. I won’t be touching it! It’s just seeing if it’s possible to have a gas engineer such as yourself to do it.

Are you Gas safe registered mate?

If it helps here is a photo looking down behind the unit.

One thing I am wondering is can it someone (safe and registered) fit a pipe that is shorter (where it connects to the wall) - with a stopper facing sideways (rather than fromtways) and just lead it into the back of the cooker where it needs to be.

Remember from my first post - the whole unit is coming out that’s not the issue. We just need the extra depth to fit in a standard dishwasher and where the cupboard ends (imagine 2 with the hole top right) is the depth needed.

Once again, I am asking is this is possible. I am not going to do it myself.

Picture isn’t clear But from what I can guess is pipe is leading from behind the dead space in the corner which you will lose doing away with unit anyway

Thanks for your help so far- could you clarify this response? The pic is the pipe from behind the cabinet - it comes out through the middle of the cabinet. It then goes up and bends right toward the gas oven/cooker.

Yes the photo you have took is from above looking behind unit so guessing pipe coming from left hand side then protruding through unit which will be soon dead space meaning pipe can be altered from that either lower higher etc it’s sadly poor install as what would they have done if dishwasher was there in first place

I would never advise anyone to tackle gas work and he has responded it’s not him doing it he’s asking for advice can it be done so do you feel I’m wrong
Just be mindful that although op says he's not doing it, you don't know if he's been crafty to try get advice. When gas is concerned on this forum, the answer is get an enginner in. Op asked a question, the answer should be, yes it can be done, get an enginner in. Don't tell them how it can be done.

And If you are gas safe, pm @ShaunCorbs, @Riley or @Harvest Fields with your gas safe details so you can get your gsr badge and then gas work can be spoke about in the private gas section.

This isn’t in private gas section and they’ve got my details through registration but I’ll forward them anyway thanks
Yeah there's a public gas section where anyone can ask for advice but we have a private section so joe public can't read about gas works and attempt it himself.

I wasn't been funny but forum rules have to be followed and I felt you was talking about the work more than you should.

Also it’s an electric cooker. That pipe is for the hob so could conceivebly come up elsewhere

I understand but use experience come on the pipe is coming from the left, how big is the electrics behind cooker and they could be below kickplates/behind gyproc etc We can’t tell all but what we can advise is it can be done, seriously op please try to now confirm, kinghorn is a nice part of the country I’m guessing that’s location lol

It’s not me looking for help lol As stated i gave it on registration, is there an administration error don’t worry I’ll forward it

Well there we go then! I’ve got my answer.

All I wanted to know is if it could be done. Thanks to everyone for their replies.

I am actually Sunderland based, but Kinghorn is a lovely place in fife and my family are from Scotland.

Anyone know any top notch gas engineers in Sunderland?

I do not think the system works like that mate. It has to be given in directly.

Are they from Edinburgh by any chance? Also, when I say it can be done, it can. But I wouldn’t advise for it to be done like @Dake205 has stated. That isolation valve needs to be accessible and not blocked in.

Seems daft as I’ve commented all night what seems to be the correct answer imagine if I gave it wrong

Harvest fields he’s stated Sunderland lol the oven is removable and that’s a soldered valve wonder what’s the connection to hob lol don’t make me do it
