One of my mates has what I think is a 2 zone heating system plus a water tank

This photo shows the pipework :

There is a room stat in the hall for the radiators and a room stat in the kitchen (which is where the only underfloor heating is)

They don't seem to be able to run the underfloor separately from the radiators and vice versa ...

So is this (in your collective opinions) an electrical issue or a a plumbing issue.

My initial take on it is that he is a zone valve short....

PS - he's happy to pay to get a proper diagnosis and fix !
 
He's missing a port valve for the underfloor so only way it works is as you say with the heating

Also the megaflow prv isn't fitted correctly
 
Agree with the above. It should be on its own zone. If it just calls the boiler on then surely radiators must get hot or the UFH will always get hot if the heatings on
 
Agree it does need its own zone valve. Looks like an easy fix as well. Underfloor looks like it's isolated at the moment though. Isn't it good practice to have the cold water control valve at the top of the unvented cyclinder? Helpful when servicing or repairing and as Shaun said better for the prv if it has gravity on its side.

Well spotted .... this was done when the underfloor thermostat packed up .... and improved the performance of the radiators ....

Sorry should have mentioned this in the op

It wont push through the heating zone valve if the heating is off
If heating is on but ufh off then the ufh pump will be off and ufh will not heat up.
