Hello everyone. I have a problem with the shower hot water. I've just moved into a new house and the shower only provides hot water when I've turned on the shower control knob to high. I don't know if this is related but I have a tank and there is a switch at the bottom but the light never comes on when I press the switch either way. Thank you in advance.

The switch is just for the immersion heater (only for use when your boiler breaks down tbh) if it's connected to anything

Do you have hot water in your kitchen tap

Could be a shower fault

Is the house a new build ??

Someone switched the immersion heater off at the mains box so that's sorted.

Kitchen taps provide very hot water.

The house is a new build.

I have an identical shower in the master bedroom and that provides very hot water. The one in question is now not very hot even when turned to maximum.

Here is a link to the shower control knob.

So you're probably right, could be a fault. BTW, what is the red switch for?

If the house is new it should be under some warrenty get the builders to have a look

The red switch is a local switch for the back up immersion so leave it off.
Are you saying that there is a problem controlling the temperature of both showers or just the one ?
Does it just happen first thing in the morning but during the day the shower works fine?

I feel so silly. There is a red switch on the shower control knob which allows you to turn the lever to hot and all is good now.

I still don't understand a couple of things. My boiler is an ideal logic system 15 and there is a control box under it like the one in the picture below.

Why do I have to turn the hot water on on the control unit to get instant hot water at least half an hour before? After I use hot water, not during, the boiler comes on to replenish the hot water used. So where is this hot water stored? The water heater is off.

in short your boiler heats the water up when your prog tells it to

then the heating water heats your cylinder water up etc

In the Megaflo indirect cylinder you posted a picture of!!
You need to switch it off "Constant" and select "Auto" (timed) then set the timer so the boiler is on for at least 40mins before you require hot water. Then see if you can last the whole day with the stored hot water in the Megaflo, if not push the 'extra hour' hot water button or adjust the timings as required.

Standard times for prog for hot water 6-8am, 3-6pm

Why?
What is standard about hot water requirements Shaun.

Standard heating times for the hot water side
, I'm guessing the op doesn't know there requirements time wise yet that's why there manually putting it on

Thanks for all the help guys. I think my best option is to leave it on continuous with the immersion heater off since we require hot water 24/7.

It will cost you & not required,
Turn it off & just see how long it lasts.
If you leave it on all the time the boiler will fire every time you use even a small amount of hot water out of the Megaflo cylinder, this is wasting gas & is not required.
The whole cylinder will heat up from cold in around 30 -40mins.
Have it on timed for an hour in the morning before you get up & an hour in the evening if you need to.

That's good advice, thanks.
