Might have to give more info mate. What plumbing (background) experience you have? Where are you specifically, Manchester’s a big place? What have you done thus far in terms of gas? It’s a bit more than someone taking you on there is a lot of liability involved. I’m afraid you’re a bit far from me. But good luck

Hi.
Thanks for your reply and advice.
I have a bit of experience in plumbing but not much.and in term of gas i think I m quite good

Again might need to sell yourself mate. Just saying you’re quite good doesn’t really tell much. Have you done anything in the way of installs plumbing or gas as part of your course? What qualifications do you currently hold? Have you trained as a plumber? What skills can you offer a mentor?

Sorry Mohammad, I hope the people you have done your gas course with are not making promises of becoming Gas Safe registered after completing this portfolio Believe me its more involved than that, and from your reply's you have very little experience in plumbing or gas other than a little class work, What makes you think your "Quite Good" with gas ?? B4 you jump into gas work you need a much better understanding of Plumbing & Heating systems.

Hi
This s why I looking for a mentor to get some experience.

So you've done a 6 week course in what plumbing and gas ??

any experience in either trades?

sorry to say youve got no chance of a job

your best bet is to go as a plumbers mate for a couple of years and then move onto the gas side

And I m not asking for a job because I m not after your money, what I m looking is get some experience,

so why go for the qualification before you have any experience

but your thinking i can put two pieces of pipe together so i will be fine

Because you have to walk before you win marathon

exactly so i say again why have you paid for the qualifications if you have no experience / idea of systems etc

To become a doctor you don’t go to operation theatre Straight away you finish your education first then you work with somebody for experience,

no you learn the underpinning knowledge first like i said in post 16

to learn this trade its going tom take a min of 2 years ask anyone on here

Is this a proper college or a training centre

The powers that be need to get a grip on this. I don't really understand NVQs etc - I am from the days of Gity an Guild. I do understand that course providers are misleading folk, and selling expensive courses to the slightly desperate. It is not fair to call these punters gullible - who would think that the govt. would allow "colleges" to encourage guys to give up good, but possibly uninspiring, jobs, take out loans, work for free - all to (typically) end up, at best, swapping out meters.

At the very least, it should be the providers responsibility to provide mentors - and pay us. When I had a shop, it was a weekly routine to decline the offer of "free" labour in return for assistance to build a portfolio. I tried hard to be positive with them, while refusing their offers

Thanks for everybody's advise and I've found 1 gas safe engineer and today I m going to start with him.
Thanks
Good luck not really sure why you saw fit to dislike my post unfortunately it’s true. You could’ve done with a proper college type introduction to plumbing before moving onto gas. People trying to run before they can walk

Keep us posted it’s always good to hear of a success story. What portfolio bits have you done?

Just out of interest, how much does someone like Mohamid pay for an 8 week course? And what sort of basic knowledge will someone have after 8 weeks? My course was 7 months at BG to become qualified and none of us thought 7 months was long enough. Without on going support for 2 to 3 years youve no chance of making it as a gas engineer in my opinion .
