Ok been having a nightmare with this old system, as i posted a week or so ago. Getting there with it slowly, but the boiler has now started to play up.

on start up everything kicks in as it should do (or so it seems). fan runs, and oil is getting through. Gave it a good service anyway, as could see it had never been done in the five years its been in. But it seems to just pulse when it shouls actually fire up, and keeps doing it. Just when u get frustrated with it it kicks in. Lasts for a while, stops and starts pulsing again. Over the weekend now it has got worse and is not firing much atall.

Called worcester and spoke to the senior engineers, and they said "not a clue sorry, we cant help"!

Its got me 'baffled', am I missing something simple? or is this going to be another headache???

I was wondering if the CO was really high.

Have you tried a new pump? They're a frequent cause of problems.

When you say pulse does it fire, go through the sequence. It may be recycling its own exhaust gases, I presume it is a balanced flue, disconnect the air snorkel and see if it does it then, it could also be overaired. Then I would be looking at the solenoid but it depends what burner is on it.Try what I said first.

we have put a new pump on the heating circuit as it was knackered, if your talking oil pump, that seems fine. are you thinking that the flu could be

yes is seems to go through everything as it should, and yes it is. Will try that... thanks

I'm not suggesting you didn't check it! Honest!!! Just wondered whether it was set for the correct nozzle and/or if it was holding it's pressure constantly. The way you answered the fga question (which I admit was a bit of a trick question) told me you knew what you are/were doing. I was thinking of what I'd be looking at.

Kimbo has some valid points though. I had a boiler with these problems but the customer decided to condemn it before I spent more time looking for other solutions. (I had been looking at the flue and air settings and when I changed the oil pump it helped, but didn't cure the problems.)

(And I'm not trying to pretend that I know much about oil boilers either. The trouble is, on the whole, the burners are so reliable.)

HaHa, tricky...

this is there third boiler in ten years. Other guys just chuck a new boiler in and run without even cleaning the system. We flushed it and it was really bad, never seen one as bad.

will try the air flows and see where this takes me.

The one I changed was around 15 years old and the baffles I'd replaced the previous year buckled.
