Hi All.

I'm attempting some plumbing in my downstairs loo and i need some advice on how best to connect in to existing Galvanised pipe. Ideally i want a 15mm feed for the sink and toilet but will need to add a T-piece. Are there compression fittings for this type of job or will i need to cut new threads onto the existing pipe?

I've attached a shot of my proposal.

Thanks in advance.

You would have to cut out a section of pipe and repair with copper or threaded galv pipe.
Is it defiantly the hot and cold?
What’s the copper on the left?

So the top blue pipe is a cold water pipe. The bottom pipe is a gas feed into the kitchen. No hot water feed. I don't want to thread if possible because access is tight against the wall so getting a die in there will be a right PITA.

Can you solder onto Galvanised pipe? I thought it wasn't a good idea?

Thanks

It's not ideal but i was wondering if i could simply cut into the copper section of the pipe and run the feed back to the sink from there perhaps? That would mitigate having to faff with the Galvanised section. Not pretty but ok for DIY? Will all be boxed in to.

Which bit is copper? It’s all blue it’s very hard to distinguish

No need to apologise buddy :) I just wanted to check if cutting into the galvanised was an easy option as I've never come across it before and i wanted to make it as tidy as possible.

I'll be cutting into the copper and just accept the longer run back to the sink feed :)

If its being boxed in you can use Philmac transitional couplings. You can cut the LCS and fit the Philmac and work away in copper or plastic, just choose the appropriate onward adaptor.

Remove a fitting and buy a 3/4 threaded to 22mm or 15mm fitting. That should do it, if its water probably best using ptfe on the threads as I've had mixed luck with water and paste.

best option

I have used a 3\4 straight conector on 1/2 GB it held a pressure of six bar and i have also used a 1 x1/4 inch straight connector on a boiler with 1 inch GB only thing is it was all irish fittings but in the uk its 22mm but i am sure if you swap rings and nuts on fittings it will still work beets brakeing out stocks and dies or striping back to a thread hope this is of use
