Maybe Johnny is stressed and overloaded with work, I've been working 7 days flat out nearly all year with about 4-5 hours sleep a night and I failed to turn up for a quote the other day, I just clean forgot I have so much on. I rang about 90mins after the appointment to explain but she had to go out and I still feel really bad as I hate letting people down. It was a lady who approached my van, had she rung I would have simply said I cant take on anymore work but face to face I felt I had to go. I'm sure Johnny will be round first thing in the morning with his tools.

You should get on to that specialist lawyer that you spoke of earlier and do it soon. Remember SNIPEF is an organisation for Plumbers and will try to defend their members first. They also have a legal department and offer this service to their members, so you may find yourself in a long expensive legal battle. They send me membership requests every few months and I refuse to join.

Threaten them with Trading Standards for selling false promises of work and I bet they back down. Personally I'd just tell them to go do one on rhemselves.

Monument and for my old tired aching hands, my Milwaulkee CP12 battery pipe slice. Not as quick but stops aching hands.

I like the Monument ones as they are hard wearing. Like all tools, a pipeslice requires maintenance. Strip it apart and smother the inside in machine grease and renew the cutting wheel regularly and it will last for a very long time.

These are readily available in this size, but they are fairly expensive. My preference is for Coram trays with Waterguard as these have an upstand built into them and are leak proof. Here's a link to a square tray in the size that you are looking for: MX 1200mm x 1200mm Dorchester Large Square Shower Tray White

Went for £107 on ebay, a bargain whether warranty is valid or not. A new Monsoon is highly unlikely to break down unless incorrectly installed.

Tilesafe is brilliant and doesn't leak. Just keep silicone well away from it! I buy mine in bulk as it secures a really good discount. Was not aware of the new Waterguard, I'll check that out.

Three guys who PM'd me about this, I have reserved your places. There is a limit of 15 allowed at the training day and it promises to be really good. Lunch is being provided by the organisers too, so free training and a free feed can't be bad. I'll be in touch soon with the itinerary and your passes and the time and address for the event. Cheers guys.

Bathroom install I'm working on had all the joists cut in half and the floor was levitating in mid air. It was held together only because of the tongue and groove floorboards. A cast iron bath was sitting on that too!

I repeat my answer to you as you posted this over on the Contractor Forum. You need to get an asbestos removal company to do this. They will seal off the area and ensure that no particles become airborne which you or your family could inhale. They will also properly dispose of the asbestos in a special asbestos disposal centre. Don't take risks with this just to save a few quid mate.

Rated people are having a free training day for apprentices that are nearly finished their training. There will many large companies there including Screwfix and official training groups. Advice and seminars will also be held about starting your own business too. As one of RP's top rated tradesmen I've been invited to give training that day as well. This promises to be a brilliant day and it's entirely FREE. This is to be held at the headquarters of Rated People in Central London on 22nd of May. If you are an apprentice or are going through training or know someone who is, PM me and I'll register you for this event. Please no comments about Rated People, if you don't like them that is up to you but please don't post anything here about it. This is a FREE training day for apprentices and NOT a day to register time served tradesmen with Rated People.

I have a favorite tool I'd be lost without and its a small thin cheap flat bladed screwdriver with the end bent over 90 degrees, the uses for that are endless like when you need to remove a bath panel for example.

They are brilliant for hard to reach places and are far easier way to cut copper than turning a pipe slice all day. Saves getting blisters. Just clamp the machine on the pipe, press a button and it's done! Cuts 15mm in about 5 seconds and 22mm in 10 seconds. Not a great timesaver, but makes cutting copper a lot easier and no more blisters!

If you use "gunge" as suggested above, make sure that if it is coming into contact with plastic that it doesn't contain linseed oil or this will corrode the plastic. Boss White contains linseed oil for example.

Could we also add sexual preference, i.e gay, lesbian and anything to do with a persons race, creed or nationality. Basically anything that might be seen as causing predujiced views, whether in fun or not.

system3 replied to a thread Flowflex in Fittings & Pipes
Flo Flex ANYTHING are the worst cheap junk you can use. The pushfit fittings leak, the soldered and end feed fittings have variable pipe diameters and the plastic stuff is so brittle that turn it sideaways and it will crack. Just a note about the soldered fittings, the solder has a very weak alloy and bits of it will run right through the pipework and get into showers and pumps and cause damage. Best to spend a bit more on quality brands as the extra cost incurred will be saved by not having to go back and fix it!

My Karcher did this and I was told that the limit switch had gone. This switches off the suction when the machine is full of water. I bought a Nilfisk and it's been much better.

  8. Hi Loz

I bent some chrome pipe the other day and got it bang on (practice) it was for an electic shower swap and the water input was on the other side (isn't it always?). Its expensive stuff so you can't afford to get it wrong!!

I don't do gas and have no interest in doing so at the moment. I've been is the trade coming up to 2 years (Jan) and I think I was 6 months in when the credit crunch hit, so given that I've started a business in a saturated market and in a recession I haven't done bad as I'm rushed of my feet at the moment.

Found out yesterday my training provider VIY in Leeds has gone bust probably a massive drop in applicants as folk realise we dont need any more plumbers at the moment. It looks like we'll be among the last of batch of cc/cc's?

    PHIL.
  9. Hi Phil really pleased with myself today managed to bend chrome pipe offset passovers the lot, tommorow is the day to see if all water tight, yeeha polished my spurs. Do you do gas as well m8, how long have you been in the trade?
  10. Hi Phil how has your week been?
