Why do some plumbers feel the need to coat everything with silicone!!
Just got back from changing two diaphragm in a school toilets (so it was not a DIY job!) and everything water touched had loads of silicone coated on!
Retaining nut, rubber washer in cistern, nut on the flush pipe. Then PTFE and silicone mix of the thread of the syphon!
I changed the diaphragms stripped all the PTFE all the silicone just nipped everything back up and guess what. No leaks!
So why do some plumbers insist on coating everything with silicone it's just not needed! The syphon is designed not to leak so why do some people still insist on this nonsence and make future maintenance jobs that little bit harder.
I've come across this loads of times and never got a call back for a leak.
