    Not usually necessary to drain down to remove a rad, but anyway........... If yours is an open vented system with a cylinder then check for an air vent somewhere near the cylinder. Have a rag or cup ready and open up the large slotted screw on the pump and keep it open until air stops coming out. (do this with the pump running).

    No. Because the cold water feed to the cylinder is open so the water forced in through the hot water outlet, instead of going straigt up the open vent has to go up the inlet pipe. This should blow out any air into the storage tank.

    Bunging a cylinder cold feed would have the same effect as turning off the isolating valve. No water in, no water out of a tap therefor could not implode a cylinder. Would have to bung both and open cylinder drain for possibility of implosion.
