Sorry Gray0689 - they are all gone! I did edit the OP with a big "offer closed" line. And the palm thickness is 5.75mm anyway... No freebies for you today I'm afraid. Edit - you beat me to it! :)

JCPlumb joins the list - 3 boxes left. I'm nipping out for a quick smoke, so there may be a delay in response for a few minutes.

Hi All We have some freebies to give away. But don't PM me yet, you have to read the whole post first... Black Mamba gloves have been developed in direct response to customers' needs for a disposable glove that is tough enough to withstand the rigorous tasks their jobs demand. Created specifically for industrial applications where standard gloves just can't survive. If your job requires tough resistance to chemicals, abrasion and tear, then Black Mamba gloves are for you. Ok, thats the marketing blurb lifted directly from their leaflet. But are they tough enough to be worth the extra money? Retail price is £13.50 plus VAT, trade price will be a bit lower than that. They seem pretty tough to me, but why take my word for it? We will send a pack of 100 large gloves (please don't ask for another size - I only have large) to the first nine PLUMBERS ARMS members or GAS SAFE badged members - you must have the forum gassafe badge or plumbers arms badge under your username - who can PM me their postal address and the answer to this question: What is the palm thickness of Black Mamba gloves? (clue - read the blurb in the pics) All you commit to is posting an online review - it doesn't have to be a positive review, although it helps if you keep your criticisms constructive. The following members are ineligible because they haven't reviewed a previous freebie: Rodolphe, Keefy, Megaflo-Experts, Anz, Orry Clayton, Destroyer2813, Stevetheplumber, SteveB, lbp plg htg, nickelarsed, Bod, Howsie. Thanks to to 1king55 of this esteemed forum for putting us onto this, and to Alan at Fortress Distribution for supplying the freebies. OFFER NOW CLOSED ALL FREEBIES GONE! Don't forget to post your reviews on this thread

Hi Tom & Mrs Tara P We will deliver anywhere on the UK mainland - orders over £100 + vat are delivered free, orders under that are £10, although we don't charge the tenner to regulars who are within the radius of our branches. Having said that, bear in mind that some items lend themselves better to carrier delivery than others, and although we are very proud of our service, its a lot easier to give top notch service when the delivery is on one of our vehicles with our driver. So while we would deliver a complicated bathroom order with lots of fragile items to Aberdeen, it would probably make more sense for an Aberdeen customer to shop locally for that type of order, and only use us for things where the chances of a carrier breaking stuff is less. Obviously we take responsibility for carrier damage, but that doesn't help if the job is delayed waiting for a replacement. In the experience we have gained so far, small orders are well handled by the carriers. Very large orders that we can palletise also work well, because the pallet gives protection. Its the mid-sized, fragile items that cause the cock ups. Ray

Hi Mike If you PM me an address, we will courier you a pack of brochures - we call it our "Bathroom showroom in a bag". It contains a range of brochures, (including Eastbrook) which we have found over the years make decent stuff at reasonably sensible prices, and which our trade customers like. All the brochures are priced, and we will quote you the same blanket discount across the whole pack, (I won't say what discount on the open forum, but will in a PM) so it makes it very easy to price up what you want. All the stuff is available from lots of outlets across the country - none of it is "own branded". If all you do is use our brochures to chose and our discount to keep a local supplier honest, thats fine - you are a long way from us, and whilst it would be great to have the order, it may make more sense for you to deal with someone local. Best of luck with the project. Ray

Thanks Simon The ecommerce site is going slowly, although distance sales via the forum, twitter and just word of mouth around the country are going better than I expected. But don't tell Dan, or he might want to re-negotiate the sponsorship. :) In fact, posting this thread was displacement activity when I should have been working on the ecommerce! <hangs head in shame>

We are pleased to announce the birth of our Hastings branch - weighing in at 3600 square feet. We completed the deal on 10 - 12 Armstrong close yesterday, after a mammoth 5 months of legal labour, and a legal bill to match. <ouch> Much thanks due to a certain bearded, landie/icecream van driving/dog training forum member for his help in finding it. Fortunately I have this pic without him or his icecream truck in the frame: There is quite a lot of demolition and rebuild to do on this one, so probably 8 - 9 weeks to fit out, estimated opening date in late July. The branch manager will be "Wild Bill" Dawson, ably supported by Sophie (Mrs Wild Bill) - Bill formerly ran our Southampton branch, but fancied relocating to sunny sussex. Next week we are looking at a building in Ashford in Kent, so I hope to have more news on that soon. Ray

It's not a daft idea, but I think the devil is in the detail. Lets assume that the OP intends to act as an agent - ie the contract for sale is still between the merchant and the installer. In the first month or so, I can see that an experienced buying agent (particularly an ex-merchant) could get better deals from national merchants than some installers currently get. However, once the installer has seen the invoices at the new lower price - what does he need the agent for? Why keep paying that percentage when he could just phone up and buy it himself at his shiny new terms? The only way to guard against this would be to have a long term contract, and I think that most installers would be a bit wary of entering into any long term agreement. If the OP intends to act as a reseller (ie keep his purchasing terms secret, and invoice the installer himself) then a single bad debt or even late payments could wipe him out. On the practical side, I am also not convinced that it is more efficient to involve a third party. I reckon we get more cock ups in 3 cornered conversations with firms that employ a buyer, so we aren't talking to the person who has actually seen the job. It wouldn't make any difference to us - we have a single price policy anyway, so any purchasing agent wouldn't have any margin to play with. Just my initial thoughts about some of the problems. It may be possible to overcome them given time and thought. Ray
