Re doing my own bathroom at the moment. I was ripping the bath out today and all the tiles / plasterboard back to the stud wall and it looks like a lot of water has got back there.

I was thinking about tanking it before tiling but I've never done this before. The plasterer is coming in next weekend to plaster the lot.

my question is what would you use to tank it and do you plaster then tank then tile? Cheers

If it's plasterboard that was on then you need to use aqua panel or similar not sure wether you skim it or not (I only do pipework) others do tiling etc. Someone will know better

with aqua panel you don't need to plaster just tank. with plastering the weight of tiles and adhesive can't be as much as without plastering

As above, use aquaboard or marine ply. And one or two of these tanking kits as required.

Looks like it's a timber framed house (modern) am I right?

Aqua panels or similar will do, or even moisture resistant plasterboard I would ceramic tile straight onto that substrate and not skim, wet trades in a timber frame house should be minimised.

just make sure the insulation is bone dry, before you cover it and kill any mould spores with a bleach spray... you will need to replace any wet insulation, it looks like the insulation is covered in clear polythene membrane which looks like it has moisture behind it.

Agreed, using it in mine at the moment

It might be sweating also

Rip the plasterboard out and use a cement board or backer board like hardibacker or wedi boards. Tank it with 2 or 3 coats of Aquaseal (1/3rd of the price of mapei)
Don't whatever you do plaster it.
If it is a solid wall cement render it.

Hi, basic question, any insight much appreciated. Looking to have an outdoor tap in my front porch fed from 15mm pex coming up from suspended floor. Pic 1 is inside porch, pex temporarily clipped to give an idea of pipe placement (ignore shoddy blockwork of booted cowboy builder!), Pic 2 is...
