My biggest concern is my baby girl. And the fumes… after I was told about the dangers, I made the mistake of Googling it. Now I'm convinced we're going to end up disfigured mutants!! By sundown!!!

Are we absolutely certain the septic tank is full and overflowing? or could it be a blocked drain on the interceptor just before the tank which is backing up through the manhole cover?

Open the septic tank cover and check the level.

If its lower than the flood, try rodding, or it may need a jet machine. If its level with the flood, then it needs sucking out.

All septic tanks need emptying from time to time to remove solids. Also its important to watch what goes down them as this can affect performance. Avoid chlorine bleach / cleaning compounds, paint brush cleaners and other similar products as this inhibits digestion of the waste matter.

She's in the USA, no interceptor trap, the septic tanks lid will be burried ( never visible). the blockage will probably be in the "Drainfield" . Tank definately needs pumping, . And as said earlier ,be careful what is put down toilets etc.....
