lame plumber

Ok then, I have this horror on my books, went to give it its annual service (20 months after my first visit). First time round I couldnt remove the hotplate as the 2 bolts securing it had seized, probably the first attempt at doing so in its 8 year plus life!!

So arrived and commenced drilling out the bolts, for any of you trying this, HSS drills are not upto it, you need cobalt drills (£60 a set of 25) and cutting oil to win this battle. So after a bit off top and found the cooker flue runs blocked, as expected.

So having tested the old cow first, i knew the cooker burner was locking out and had the answer. What I didnt expect was to find the backpressure had caused the ecoflam burner header to overheat melting the ignition leads and seals along with the pec holder. Now this pec holder is a pastic cylinder, mounted on the burner head so it seems to keep the pec further out of the burner than normal, probably due to this overheating issue. So now I call up aga spares to replace the part, to find they dont even recognise it, dont hold it and hard luck.

So my question is have any of you come across this, how did you resolve it. My thought are to use a standard mount and push the pec into the burner head as it is done on the boiler side, as with the more modern 880k (prior to their demise does), but if the flueways are restricted by design I dont expect the pec to last too long, but not really got any choice other than installing a new burner head completely, and being aga wont be cheap.

Anyone. commercial specialists thoughts will be accepted on this post :)

Go direct to ecoflam. Needed bits for a Stanley back before Xmas, Stanley wanted to sell me a new burner at £500+, whereas the bit from ecoflam was sent overnight for £30ish.

Stanley is AGA Rayburn owned so no surprise there. I just wondered about cannibalising the remnants to get it working agai, cheers, but will be chatting to ecoflam to see their thoughts as well

Go to Ecoflam, they are pretty helpful and you will get parts quickly

I'm looking for some advice on a frustrating problem I'm having with my old Eurostar 50-60s oil boiler please? Although it's old, most parts needed to operate it are now new. The symptoms indicated a broken/seized burner motor or oil pump. I wrongly assumed the motor so I ordered a new one only...
